Who cares? I am a die hard UF fan, and some fans are FREAKING the F out!! Will Muschamp is our coach now, Meyer can do as he pleases!
Re: Urban Meyer goes to OSU
When Dan Mullen and Charlie Strong left, they took the 'genius' that was Urban with them. Urban's spread offense is really Dan Mullen's. Sure, he'll get recruits there, they'll likely win the Big 10 (because they are a weak conference), but OSU will continue to get dominated by the SEC in big time bowl games (because the SEC is THE conference to beat for the BCS title). I think Urban left UF because he knew he could no longer beat Bama and LSU.....so he quit. Taking time off for family and health, and after one year jumping back into coaching, screw him. He wanted out, it was all a BS excuse. I hope he falls flat on his face....
I'm not entirely sold on Muschamp (and especially Weis), but I'm willing to give them a few years to get their players and schemes set up. We are a spread offense trying to run pro style plays, not gonna happen, not without a deep threat or a power running game (which is the only way to compete with Bama and LSU). Our defense played lights out though against FSU, however thank you John Brantley for completing all those passes to the FSU secondary....lost the game for us.
Yes, he did a lot for the program, blah blah blah. He can do as he pleases, etc.
I still die a little inside when I see him up there with that red tie.
Oh, and then there's this:
"I made this clear to Jeremy, if I am able to go coach, I want to coach at one place ? the University of Florida...It would be a travesty, it would be ridiculous to all of a sudden come back and get the feeling back, get the health back, feel good again and then all of a sudden go throw some other colors on my shirt and go coach. I don't want to do that...I have too much love for this university and these players and for what we've built."
~Urban Meyer, 12/28/09
LIAR!
Ditto. It's his life. I think it's a fantastic hire for Ohio State and it's where he's from - he grew up in Cincinnati, went to Cincinnati, was a GA and got a degree from Ohio State, it's not that much of a surprise.
It's like when Tom Crean left Marquette in 2007 for Indiana. A lot of alumni were super pissed that he left since he said that Milwaukee was home, Marquette is family blah blah blah. Guess what. Crean left Marquette in a better state and they moved to a better conference. Meyer did the same for Florida - he left it in a better state. Get over it. Coaches move on and so do players. The program should be (and IS) bigger than to allow itself to be defined by a single coach.
That's debatable.
In all seriousness, I'm being a tad tongue and cheek. I'm not crying in my cheerios, but I am also of the 'good riddance' mindset.
tOSU = Gator Bait
I have no dog in this fight...
I do find myself rooting for Ohio State simply because their initials are 'OSU'. Yes, I get that it's akin to picking a team because 'their colors are pretty', but it's the truth. And, I have always been an Urban Meyer fan. I think I have a slight crush on him. The man is a good looking guy.
So, all that to say, I have no problem with it. Good luck to him.
Left it in a better state? You obviously haven't seen Florida's team the last two years, and their lack of talent on the team, no deep threat receiver, no power running back, a small offensive line, and short personnel in the secondary. Our only bright spot is our kicker, who unfortunately was hurt most of the year (not that it mattered, our losses weren't that close of games). Better state, lol, thanks for the laugh...
I didn't go to an SEC school and I pay more attention to college basketball. It doesn't seem like it's in a totally decimated state. But in any case, I still stand by my argument that any program should be bigger than any one coach or player. My friends who went to Kentucky certainly don't begrudge Rick Pitino for becoming the coach at Louisville.
And I also agree with PP that Urban Meyer is not a bad looking dude.
Meyer should never have said that to Jeremy Foley....I agree with that.....BUT:
Why does anyone believe these guys anymore? It's all about $$$$$$ and it's all big business now. I agree with a pp that a program is about the whole, not just one coach or player. I also feel for Will Muschamp, who is being treated like chopped liver at this point. HE IS THE COACH NOW!!!!! Urban Meyer is KNOWN FOR bieng a program-jumper. Some people are taking Meyer's new gig way to personally, considering he left Utah and came to Fl in the same way he is leaving Fl and going to OSU.
And then will leave OSU to go to his "dream job" at Notre Dame....and on and on it goes.....
I'm just a tiny fish in this conversation but you said Notre Dame so it reminded me of that day 2 years ago when Skip Holtz said he was never leaving. The next day he was on a plane to South Florida.
If Notre Dame ever comes calling he will be on the next plane out of there too.
All of these coaches = disloyal. The one the was loyal is in the middle of a child predator debacle.
I actually heard Skip was being considered for the PSU gig...
I could see that. The only reason I could see it not happening is because I can't imagine any coach is wanting to go there right now.
That happened to K-State basketball's program with Bob Huggins, who left after 1 season to go to WV. The only coaches I have ever really believed would not leave is Bill Snyder and that guy will probably die in his office at K-State.

THIS x 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always thought (hoped) Urban was on a different level than Lame Kitten, too.
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
The problem that I have with Meyer is that he didn't outright leave Florida for OSU. He left to "spend more time with his family" and to "get healthy." Which was a load of bologna. Totally agree with PPs about the benjamins. But I think it's about, at least for Meyer, not tarnishing his record. He used family and health issues as an excuse to get out of a bad situation. Without Strong, Mullen and Tebow Urban had nothing at UF. I find the sequence of events (The Vest being fired, and suddenly Meyer's health has dramatically improved, and family isn't so important to him) too coincidental.
I hope he fails miserably. Not that I'm bitter or anything.
In fairness just so ya'll know. He had to sign a contract with his family and he waived it around at the press conference and he said "this is tougher than any contract I just got done signing"
*finger down throat*
Yeah. What a crock of shiiit.
Lol WHUT? Must have missed that...
That whole presser was a crock. He was all, "I researched this," "I researched that," while maintaining he hadn't been offered the position til the night before. OK, dude.
Lest we also forget that Urbans wife gave the approval for Luke Fickell to remain on Urbans staff.
AND "I will always be a Gator"..yep, he said that standing at our podium. I just about punched the tv.
