Apple Fail

I'm usually pretty happy with the updates Apple puts out, but this new autocorrect that they have in Safari is driving me nuts. I'm sure it's great for people who can't spell worth a damn to start with, but I spell things properly 98% of the time. The words that get autocorrected for me are things that I mean to spell a certain way. Dipes gets corrected to "dupes", my kid's name gets corrected to "nuts" (which would be funny if this whole situation weren't so annoying to begin with) and pretty much every Nest/Bump abbreviation gets turned into something else. Makes wasting time so much harder.

  • Sounds fuunnnnnnn; and I go with Firefox for so many reasons.

  • Yea, I'd be annoyed also!

Since we are talking about typing on an Apple product...I have a question.

Does anyone know how to allow the Macs to correct the word *for* you when typing in OpenOffice? A lot of times I'll begin to type a word and it'll suggest the rest of it and I'm not sure how to tell it to use what it's suggesting.

    I use Google Chrome. :)

I always want to like Safari but I just don't. I like it on the actual iPhone but not on my Mac. The other browsers seem to allow typing in the address bar without having to manually highlight the existing link to type. And, you can also search from the address bar, etc.

I've never used OpenOffice (nor have I heard of it admittedly) but perhaps pressing 'Enter' when the suggestion pops up?

  • Seriously, why can't they just have a spell check, instead of "fixing" your words for you?

It's a free program for Macs that's very similar to Word and Excel.

I just opened up a document and it's trying to suggest "underestimated" and when I type up to underes the rest of the word appears in blue with it underlined. I've tried pressing the space bar and enter. When I try those 2 things it deletes the entire word.

    Well, that's just plain annoying.

My husband changed the autocorrect for OpenOffice so it doesn't do it anymore, but I *think* I used to hit the right arrow or down arrow or something like that.  I don't remember exactly anymore.

Thank you so much. I was able to find it in the options and now I have it to accept the auto corrections by using the space bar. !
