Ok, I've popped practically over night and my belly band thingy is barely making the cut any more. So, where did y'all find maternity clothes that don't look like you're wearing a bag? I went to the new Old Navy at the mall and their selection was down right awful compared to their old store near Target. I went to Motherhood or whatever that store in the mall is called and figured out their pants are meant for people with legs 5+ inches longer than mine. DH and I are going to head to JCP in Auburn on Sunday since I've heard they have a good selection (and I have a 20% coupon). Anywhere else I should check out? I'm pretty much looking for 3 pairs of pants for work and some shirt and not looking to spend a ton.
TIA!
Re: @ Maternity Clothes?
Motherhood sells some of their pants in a short length. That's where I bought the majority of my maternity clothes.
The JCPenney in the Maine Mall doesn't carry maternity, but they had a pretty good selection of items online back when I was in the market for such things.
You're going to look awkward in maternity wear no matter what you buy until your belly fills out a bit. But if your other pants don't fit, you don't have much choice. You don't want to buy two maternity wardrobes if you can help it.
I purchased a lot of mine from Motherhood, Old Navy, as well as Macy's has a small maternity section upstairs (at least they did 2 years ago). I am tall, but I remember seeing some petite stuff there when I was shopping.
Good luck!
Thanks for the tips, ladies!
I have "normal" length legs, but for some reason the Motherhood pair I liked were meant for a giant.
I hadn't thought about Kohl's this weekend (even though I know I saw they had them in their circular). Duh!
Based on the JCP website, the Auburn store is the only one that has maternity clothes.
I'll keep on huntin'. :-)
Macy's in Portland has a small maternity section. Most of my stuff is from old navy, target and gap. I bought some clothes off eBay. Walmart online has an okay selection as well, that is where I bought my winter coat for 17.00
There is a great store in Biddeford Maternity Fare that has great clothes as well, it's a consignment store that only sells clothes that are in style.
I had a ton of borrowed maternity clothes. I also bought stuff from Gap, Old Navy and Motherhood.
I splurged on a pair of Gap maternity jeans. I wore those things every.single.day. Loved them. I also wore then after Abe was born until I started losing lots of weight. They were expensive but I got every pennies worth...and I plan to wear them if I'm pregnant again!
Most of the Gap/ Old Navy stuff is online-- their stores are pathetic and the outlets don't even carry maternity anymore so don't waste your time there!
Most of my stuff was from ON and hand me downs.
Most of my stuff is from Old Navy. their Biddo store had a good selection when it was open, but there is a lot online too. I have some GAP that I got on sale, Ann Taylor Loft (also on sale, but I think they discontinued their maternity line) and Target. I found some really great deals on the Target clearance racks in Biddeford. The only place I shopped this time was a consignment store in Waterboro, so those stores are worth checking out too.
When I went back to work after having Eli I had to buy some shirts and pants that were a size larger than normal, because my regular clothes didn't all fit yet. This pregnancy I was able to wear those for quite a while before needing maternity clothes (around 20 weeks) and am still wearing a lot of the shirts. Like Kimberly said you sometimes end up needing 2 maternity wardrobes, so I would suggest looking for deals on slightly bigger "regular" clothes for now since they are helpful to have after baby arrives anyway.
I got most of my stuff at Old Navy online or at Target... the two tops I ended up wearing pretty much every day were from Target and I loved them! And I bought a white and black cami from Old Navy and wore it under everything so even if it wasn't really maternity but still looked decent I could wear it. My jeans and work pants were from Target.
I bought a couple splurge tops at Gap and Motherhood and then about a week before the boys were born I bought a skirt because I couldn't stand looking at my maternity clothes again.
I am kind of happy that my maternity clothes were part of the flooded items so that I have an excuse to buy new ones next time around because I hated those clothes by the end of my pregnancy... but not looking forward to the cost!
I refuse to spend a ton on Maternity clothes. I bought one pair of pants at Target and got the rest from Burlington Coat Factory.
For tops I am trying to get away with long sweaters/sweater dresses for as long as I can. I did pick up a couple of nice tops on clearance at Kohls for under $10 I will wear them with cardigans this winter and then I can wear them on their own come spring. The good thing about Kohls is that their Maternity is usually included in Doorbuster sales - I landed one top at 60% off.
Fun note about Maternity clothes. I noticed at school today that my pants felt a little wierd, like they weren't fitting right. At lunch I went to the bathroom and realized that I had put them on backwards this morning. Thankfully my top was quite long so no one noticed but I felt really awesome at that point.
This really tickled me.
Definitely done that. I couldn't stop laughing.
I bought a whole entire lot of maternity clothes (like 16 jeans/dress pants/shorts/capris/yoga pants and 24 shirts) for like $75 from craigslist. It was all freshly laundered and the woman took excellent care of them.
And I bough a ton of stuff at Maternity Fair in Biddeford. It's a consignment shop in Biddeford that only sells maternity clothing. The woman there is excellent and she can help get you just what you need. The selection is great too.
I think I spent total less than $130 for everything I needed for a maternity wardrobe. And I had a TON of stuff.
YAY! I had success at Kohl's and they were having a 40-50% off sale. I walked out with a pair of jeans and then two pairs of pants for work. I also found a pair of shorts for 90% off ($4), which was awesome since I'll need something to wear in 20 days when we are on our cruise. I spent a bit over $100, but the quality seems to be high enough that I won't have to worry about wearing any of it out in the next 22 weeks.
I haven't really bought many shirts yet, but have enough that are still "working" from before I lost 25 pounds this year, so I'm going to hold off until I find super good sales. Or I borrow from people. LOL!
Thanks for your help, ladies! The maternity jeans I'm wearing today are likely my favorite jeans now. They fit awesome!
