Mattress pad vs mattress topper?
What are the differences?
Anyone have a recommendation?
H hates our mattress. He wakes up sore everyday. This morning I found him sleeping on the couch in the basement. He said it's more comfortable.
So I think I am going to get something to soften our bed for him. I just don't know what to get. I have a budget of $85 (if I go with something from BBB it could be up to $100 since I have 20% off coupons for there.)
Anyone have any suggestions? Our mattress is only 4.5 years old and it was pretty pricey. Can't afford to replace it right now.
Re: Mattress pad vs mattress topper?
This topper gets good reviews, but it seems so cheap.

I guess it couldn't hurt to try it out for the price...hmmm...
Where did you get your Mattress? Is there in large indentation or sag on his side. If you bought it new (I'm assuming your did) you may be able to make a warranty claim. Most beds has at least a 5-10 warranty. When I worked at Art Van I handled TONS of mattress issues.
A mattress pad acts as a protector against staining and spills.
A topper is to give extra support or padding.
Thank you!
No, there is no defect in the mattress. So sagging or indentation. We bought new from Jonathan Stevens. Its just too firm for H. I will get a topper and see if that makes it softer for him. Thanks for the info!
I recommend anything that would allow you to be able to jump on the bed while DH sets his glass full of red wine down on the bed without spilling.
Thank you for the laugh.
When I was PG, I couldn't sleep on our bed (it was too hard and hurt my hip and shoulder). I knew I would do some co-sleeping once James was here, so I didn't want to spend a lot of $ for something to use for only a few months (toppers aren't safe with co-sleeping). So I just bought one of those cheap egg crate toppers. I turned it upside down and put it under the mattress pad and it worked pretty good.
Wow that ended up being pretty wordy to just say I used an egg crate topper and liked it.
Awesome. Good to know. And king size is about $30 so if it works it will be a great solution.
We have a feather bed over our mattress & love it! They can be pretty pricey but they tend to go on sale this time of year or you can find them at places like TJ Maxx & Marshalls at a good price.
My mom has a memory foam topper & swears it's the best invention ever! I'm not sure how much those run though.
My friends raves so much about her memory foam topper from Kohls that I bought us one on Black Friday - I'm just waiting for it to arrive next week then I can review it. Maybe look into one of those, it would definitely soften the firm mattress for your H!
Oooh, kinda pricey, but maybe I'll splurge! Let me know how you like yours when it arrives.
I got ours for like 70 bucks on black Friday. They often have them 50-60% off at Kohls - plus if you open a Kohls Charge you can save 20% off too usually. May be worth it for a big purchase if you dont have one already.
I'll let you know what I think of it!
Also, I know Overstock can be kind of hit or miss, but they have a good selection with a WIDE range of prices - check there!
