Curves?

Has anyone belonged to them? There is a location really close to my house. I have had a gym membership at almost every gym in town over the years and I always get bored with them and stop going. I need to get on the ball though and wondered if this would be a good fit. I love Zumba and know they have those classes. I'm wondering though is it where you go workout on your own or does someone assist you each time? How much is it a month?

Re: Curves?

  • Curves from what I understand of it is kind of like circuit training.  You have a number of stations that you go to every minute and you go around the room twice.  I'm not sure how Zumba is factored in, but I don't think it's like a typical gym where you just pick which equipment you want to work out on.  Could be wrong, but that's what I know of it when they first came around.
  • I went to Shapexpress many years ago which is a circuit like Curves.  I really liked it!  It was nice that the basic workout is 30 minutes so I didnt' feel like i had to dedicate hours and hours to the gym.  On days I had more time, I could either do the circuit twice or use the cardio equipment.  If it wasn't busy I could spend time on an individual machine within the circuit.  They also had free weights and classes.

  • I did it years ago when I had an injured knee and rotator cuff...that's the only reason I did it for a short amount of time, plus I got a discount through my college or work...anyway..I was the youngest there by at least 30 or 40 years, but I only went to one location and just for a few months. I didn't much care for it overall...it just helped me retrain my knee, which I couldn't do with extensive workouts.

  • The Zumba at Curves is not a full on Zumba class (i.e. just dancing). The do circuits of 30 secs to a minute of dancing mixed with the lifting from what I understand.  It would keep your heartrate up and allow for toning, but I don't think you will be scorching off calories like you do in a regular Zumba.
