vacuum cleaner recs

we need a new one! we have hardwood, area rugs and 2 cats so we need something that is versatile and decent with pet hair. the smaller the better since our storage options are small and limited!

Re: vacuum cleaner recs

  • DH came home with a dyson two weeks ago and it is great! if you have a 20% coupon for BBB, it helps with the cost. we have the multi-floor one but my mom has a long haired cat and she has the animal.

It was actually kind of disturbing to see how much the dyson picked up (that our old vacuum obviously was not).

  • We have a dyson too. I think its the dc25 one? Anyways. It's awesome. I've had it for 3ish years and have never had a problem with it. We have tile, vinyl, hardwood and carpets - it works great on all floors. Ditto pp about the 20% off at BB&B, but I also saw one on overstock.com yesterday. It was refurbished and on sale for 220.
  • Another love for the Dyson.  We have the animal one I love it.  We also have hard wood, vinal, and carpet.  We've had ours about 4 years now with NO issues.  One thing I did notice when I first used it was the amount of crap that got picked up that my old vacuum had missed.

We vacummed our floors with the old one and then right after with the Dyson the day we got it and I was suprised how much more was picked up.  I guess you could say it "sucks" but in a good way!!

  • we have an LG Luv200R or something like that. It has floor and carpet features, the hose has an attachment that is *amazing* at getting cat hair off the kitties favorite sleep spots (it takes our comforter from gray back to navy blue). it's a canister model like the dyson but cheaper. it's at BBB so coupons can work too.

  • Another dyson fan here.  Check out amazon for refurbed ones as well.  We got ours super cheap on there.  Same warranty and we've never had a problem with ours in 3 plus years.

  • If you don't want to spend money on a Dyson, I'm very happy with my Eureka Boss vaccuum. I think we paid around $100 for it. I can't remember exactly when we bought it, but it was somewhere in the range of 7-9 years ago, and it's still going strong.

  • I'm another Dyson Animal owner and we have a golden retriever, carpet, hardwood and ceramic/vinyl floors.  It seriously amazes me at the amount of dirt that gets brought in the house.
