new to the area

My husband just got transferred to New Braunfels and my question to you ladies was what is a nice neighbor hood, other than Canyon Lake, or surrounding areas?

Re: new to the area

  • Hi there! I don't know New Braunfels housing well at all, so I don't have much of a recommendation. I know my friend's boyfriend lives off of 46 (but the opposite side of Canyon Lake) and it seemed to be a good area. I live in Schertz, which is about 10 minutes south of NB, depending on what part of NB you're in. Gruene is also a beautiful area! They have some new housing right now that looks pretty and it's such a quaint, historical area. I definitely recommend you check it out for shopping and eats! :)

  • There is one house that I found online in Schertz that I really like and my husband is going to be in the area next weekend, so he said he'll check it out. It's in the Retama Ridge subdivision. Is there anything you can share about Schertz?

  • I think Retama Ridge might be in Selma, but I'm not positive. If it is, it's literally next door to Schertz. I've lived in Schertz for a little over 3 years and I really like it. It's just far enough out of San Antonio, but it's close enough to get the things done that I need to do. I like it because my grocery store is literally 1 mile away, my OB is about the same distance, I'm in a very quiet neighborhood and I'm close enough to New Braunfels/Gruene that I can take advantage of their yummy eateries on a weeknight. The schools in the district are also good and the city has been making lots of improvements. The downside is that the traffic between my exit (FM 3009/Natural Bridge Caverns Rd) and 1604 can be terrible. Drive around a little if you come see the house and take a look around.

  • Cool, Thanks for the info.
  • I am new too, so no advice, but welcome.
