I love my job. Let me preface this by saying that.
I don't, however, see life becoming financially flexible at all if I stay here. Especially after the kiddo is born in the spring. One small pay increase (not even 3%) last year after 4 years of employment (now have been here for 5) plus an increase of out-of-pocket expense for health insurance because of changes made that small increase null and void.
I do not anticipate receiving a pay increase again any time soon. Such is life working at a non-profit.
The flexibility/understanding though has been a huge fringe benefit that you don't usually see in corporations and is part of what makes me hesitant to leave.
I see no other option, currently, but to have to find new employment elsewhere. Should I wait until after the kid is born before becoming more hot and heavy with my job search or begin now or??
WWMND?
Re: WWMND?
It would definitely depend on their mat policies for me. Do you like their mat policies? Are they generous/flexible? If you move now, you won't have been at a company long enough to rate their mat benefits, right?
I would stay until after.
If you leave now you're not going to be eligible for FMLA protection when you're due to delivery.
I'd keep looking but if you interview I would make it a requirement that you get job protection for X amount of weeks when you deliver. I'd get this in writing in the job offer. You should still be able to collect STD even if you changed jobs, it's my understanding most states base it on a collective amount of hours over the year, not hours worked for one employer.
I was looking more to change jobs after the kiddo was born, to clarify.
I just know with employment the way it is right now; whether I should start looking now in hopes of finding something to begin after the babe is here.
