Zach Wahls... your thoughts?

In case you haven't seen the video floating around the web, I posted the link above. Zach Wahl's, a 19 year old from Iowa, was speaking in the Iowa Senate against a House Joint Resolution that would ban gay marriage and civil unions.
Parts of his speech gave me goosebumps and I think he did an outstanding job. My older brother is gay and so is my best male friend. These are two of the most important people in my life and I hate that they are not always given equal opportunities. I think homosexuals should be allowed to marry nationwide; I cannot believe in 2011 that there are still people fighting to ban such things. This is my opinion though, what's yours?

I haven't had the time to watch th4e video but I've heard a lot about it.
I agree that homosexual couples should have the say rights as a married heterosexual couple. I think that maybe one of the best solutions I've heard is to allow them to get civil unions that have the same opportunities that married couples have, nationwide. From what I've read/heard, some people get pretty riled up calling it a marriage for various reasons, so why not just call it a civil union and allow them to take part in everything a married couple can - it seems to me like sort of a compromise in the middle.

I completely agree that same-sex couples should be allowed to marry (and not just have be allowed civil unions). I really struggle to understand why anyone would be treated differently by government/society/religion because of sexual orientation. It's absurd to me.
