What is everyone's secret on keeping your tree alive longer? We have always just did sugar & water...any others?

Re: Real Christmas Trees
Cut an inch off the base when you get it home so it sucks up water better. Keep it away from heaters or fireplaces. Water it very often.
While I was growing up we always got packets of plant/tree food to mix into the water with our tree. I think they gave them to us when we cut it down and bought it on the tree farm. Not sure where you'd get it now, but it might be something you could keep an eye out for.
