Poll about movies or books of 2011

Can you believe we've entered the last month of 2011 already? How about a poll about movies and books of 2011?

Was there any book or movie (ETA: or TV movie/series, animated movie, cartoon, etc) that you really loved or that had an impact on you in 2011, regardless of their actual date of release? Wanna share a favorite quote, screenshot, poster, behind-the-scene anecdote, or anything else about it?

Re: Poll about movies or books of 2011

  • I am honestly lame about movies. I didn't grow up going to them much and with DH it's too much of a pain with access. I can't remember the last movie I saw in a theater, it was so long ago. We just wait til they're on TV (which is what I did as a kid often, too). So I'll break the rules a bit. Here's a photo of 2 characters from the TV show Downton Abbey in a Twilight style photo shoot. I don't know if it's had an impact on me aside from enjoying it. It's an original script (not a book adaptation) similar to Upstairs Downstairs but moves at a fast pace more like The West Wing. It has great actors and is beautifully shot.image

As for books, I have gotten into the Murdoch Mysteries series due to the TV show that is based on them. They are set in Toronto in the Victorian Era and the detective (Murdoch) is kind of a science nerd who uses new sleuthing techniques for the era. He's Catholic (which is an issue in the period) and compassionate for the downtrodden. He works closely with a female coroner. The books are darker than the TV show but I like both.

  • I am breaking the rules because mine is a tv show. I love American Horror Story because it totally reminds me of Stephen King, who I love to read. Scary movies lately have been too much about the gory bloody elements and I would much rather have a great storyline with my scares. The TV format works really well with this show. I know that my dad would have liked this show too, because he was the one who got me into Stephen King's books, so I think of it as something we could have shared (I know that sounds silly).

Not silly at all. My dad was the one who got me into jazz and I often think of him when I listen to it (which is often).
  • Books: Under the Banner of Heaven, Room, and A Stolen Life (the book by Jaycee Dugard) all had a major impact on me. They are books that will always stay with me, I think.

Movies: Didn't see a lot this year. The only one that really sticks in my mind is the Harry Potter movie.

  • This was the year I read the Hunger Games series, which was great. Can't wait for the movie next spring. And I'll pimp Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins to anyone who will listen.

We've also been hooked on Dexter and started watching Weeds this year. Bridesmaids came out this year, right? That's the funniest movie I've seen in a while.

My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.
