Point and shoot recs - downgrading from DSLR

I bought a DSLR (Nikon D40X) when my son was born 4 years ago - I love it for the speed, but I'm ashamed I never really learned how to use any of its great features.  I'd like to downgrade to a more portable P&S - my daughter is due in January.  I know a lot has changed, and it seems P&S has come a long way - any recs for what models to look at for a faster camera with decent frames per second and image quality?  Thanks!

I'm a huge fan of the Canon Powershot- I have a DSLR and a P&S, I keep the P&S in my purse, use the DSLR for larger shoots.  With the Powershot, you've got some manual functionality and they made a ton of models so you have a lot of options that means you can get the exact camera you want.

I also love my Canon Powershot.  I've had it for 3 years now, and it's held up well to my abuse and still takes awesome photos.

I just read a review on the Olympus Pen...it isn't really cheap but it gives some functionality of a DSLR and you can get other lenses for it if you want down the road.  But it weighs in at a whopping 8oz.  It's got me intrigued.

I played around with the Pen at Best Buy recently and almost bought it. It takes amazing pictures, is compact, and weighs very little. I wasn't in the market to buy a $500 camera, but in the future this will be the one for me. I ended up buying the Nikon P300 and am really happy with it.

I had an old Sony Cybershot and loved it. We got a Canon Powershot to replace it, but I don't like the Canon or the picture quality quite as much as my Sony.
