I know this is terribly selfish of me

We decided to buy a new laptop for Christmas this year as our gift for each other.  I'm sad that once again we won't be doing anything for each other.  And also a teensy bit jealous that J's birthday is the 28th, so at least he gets *something* around the holidays.

What I really want is something stupidly extravagant, like a Mexico trip, or this:

Re: I know this is terribly selfish of me

  • Not selfish. Selfish is actually BUYING the terribly extravagant thing when you need something else.

I feel you - we aren't doing any gifts for each other at all this year since we are both unemployed, and it feels yucky. I keep telling DH that next year will be better. . .

  • Our Christmas present to ourselves was a new microwave.  I love the microwave and we really NEEDED it.... but yeah, I hear ya.

  • *** sigh *** I hear you.  I am getting cookware, which we really need as our old set is getting rusty and gross.  I really want high-end cashmere sweaters.  Or maybe a winning lottery ticket so that is not a problem.

  • Well, I got my ring - but I have to admit that I feel kind of impractical for not asking for the weather tech floor mats I should get to protect the interior of the Keri-mobile.

Worse?  I had planned to buy them myself, but then I got that stupid ticket, so now my present to myself will be paying for driving like a jack_ass.  :(

Here is hoping Santa puts a high dollar winning scratcher in your stocking!!

I don't know if you are opposed to 2nd hand but I got two very nice cashmere sweaters that are from Neiman Marcus at the Clothes Mentor by SWP for $22/ea.  I love them!

  • I soooo hear you! Part of me is like "I'm birthing your daughter for your Christmas gift, you better get me something good!" But at the same time I would be pissed If He spent a bunch of money. Blah. and we just had to drop $600 on a new dishwasher yesterday.

  • Hey, just think of all the lives you're not ruining by buying blood diamonds.  There's a bright side to everything.
A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.

Unless I buy Canadian diamonds.  Smile

  • I hear ya.  We are totally broke right now, so we're not doing gifts for each other.

The problem is, DH is totally fine with this as he is not a fan of gifts in any way - even getting something he wants.  I, however, really love surprise presents, and wish I'd have something to open on Christmas.

On the other hand, my mom usually goes overboard & buys us tons of useless things.  I have asked her for a GC to either Lowe's or HD so we can put it toward our bathroom reno starting some point after the holidays.  I am glad about that.

Maybe MIL will surprise me with something....  ::crosses fingers::

  • I know how you feel.  I'd love an iPhone for Christmas.  Instead we are replacing our bathtub.  We paid the deposit and DH turned to me and said Merry Christmas.

  • The ring is so pretty and sparkly though.  I mean, think of how happy you will be using that awesome new laptop.  :)  And, it is totally only selfish if you bought the ring.  Lusting after it doesn't even register on the selfish scale.
