Re: bucks

  • Hey there...i'm doing really well actually. The blood transfusion worked wonders and i have a lot of my energy back. Kidneys are actually improving, which is mostly good news. I say mostly bc i'm not quite sick enough now to get a transplant...and that's frustrating bc it just means i have to wait longer. The transplant is a 100%...it's just going to be the timing that is the unknown. So, i'm sort of in a holding pattern right now. I'm just glad i'm more normal....for a while there i really lost a lot of my true self...i was pretty pitiful. Also, last wed was my last day of work. I still have the bookkeeping and i'm working on getting filed for social security disability (can take up to 18 months to get qualified and see any money). Thankfully i got a nice severance from my job and i had the $$ i made from catering as a emergency fund. Thanks for asking. I appreciate it :)

  • i am glad to hear you are feeling a little better. sounds like you didn't even know how bad you were feeling until you got better. i hope the ssi comes through sooner rather than later so the only thing you have to worry about is getting better. i am also happy to hear they gave you a good severance. so what does the transplant thing mean? you still need one but your need is not as great as others so you go down on the list? do you have to do dialysis? is it possible that you could get better and not have to have the transplant, or is it a done deal?

  • The transplant is a done deal...my kidney function will never go back to normal and will only get worse with age/time. And if i keep getting really sick like i did this time, it could start affecting other vital organs (heart, lungs). One of the things that happened when i went in for thr blood tranfusion was that my potassium came back elevated, which is really bad for ur heart. So i had to drink this medicine tjat absorbed it quickly so i didnt have a heart attack. Stuff like that is scary. Also...had i not had a great doctor who checked my labs right away and called me, i literally could have died in a day or two with my hemoglobin as low as it was. Again, scary. You're right...i didnt know how sick i was until i started feeling better. I have no idea how i fubctioned at all in oct and nov. It's so nice to feel like me again. We are hoping to find a living donor...it's the best in terms of longterm prognosis. Also, i avoid going on a list. It's going to be hard though bc my parents are too old to donate (kidney function naturally declines w age) and my sister cant bc she has lupus also with the same conplications. We are trying to avoid dialysis if at all possible. But, we never know.

  • Good luck with your search for a donor. You are definitely in my thoughts.
