Awesome, DH

At the Santa Pub Crawl he dropped his phone and the screen shattered. It's my old Droid Incredible and it's not even a year old. He wants to replace it, but because we just used his upgrade for me to get my 4S, the cheapest he can get a phone right now is $500.  I was going to buy an old iPhone 4 for him, but even though it says $99, it's $549 if you are between upgrades. The earliest he can upgrade is 9 months from now.

He'll just have to whine for the next 9 months because I'm not paying $500 for his mistake.

Re: Awesome, DH

  • Can you find a cheap phone on craigslist or ebay for less than that and change the SIM card? (I say this as if I know how it works...)  I wouldn't pay $500 either.  Taht sucks.
  • Can you find a refurbished phone for cheaper?
  • Who is your service through?

  • Verizon. I have no idea how to do the sim card etc - I'm sure there's an easier way but I'm not aware of it.
  • I replaced the display in my iPhone a few months ago.  Bought a $10 screen kit from amazon and watched a YouTube video.  It was pretty easy.  Not sure about the droid, but I imagine it would be similar.  At least it could limp him through the next nine months.

  • I take it they can't replace the screen on a Droid?
  • I'll have to look and see if that's something I can buy. I had no idea you could do that - I'm glad I posted :)

Verizon does not do SIM cards.  That's AT&T and TMobile.

I have two Verizon phones that I no longer need.  Not even for backups.  We switched to TMobile.  It's not a Droid, but it is a "smart" phone.  If you're going to be in FoCo anytime soon, it's yours to have!

Thanks! I am going to buy him the screen kit to try to fix it - if that doesn't work I will absolutely take you up on it. Thank you!

  • Check out the apple repair shop at 8th and Kalamath. They fix all kinds of phone screens. They are super cheap too. They fixed my iphone for $90 after a toilet dunk.

  • I believe another option is to buy a cheap pay as you go phone from Wal-mart or some place similar. I had looked into it awhile ago when my old phone died.

Were you able to use the pay as you go phone through verizon? I heard one of those brands uses verizon's service.

  • I never ended up using it but verizon sells a pay as you go phone and I had just planned on buying it and activating it with my regular service.
