I was invited to a golf course community Christmas party by friends but it was somewhat last minute and the party is Thursday. Any of the dresses I have that would be appropriate are too big.
A friend lent me a black bodycon dress that looks very similar to this (minus the gap in the back). It's just solid black and doesn't have any shimmer. The dress fits well, it's definitely long enough and DH insists it doesn't look slutty or skimpy. I only asked him about a million times since I've never worn a dress that fitted.
I was planning to wear heels that I have very similar to these.
Do you think this is dressy enough for the party?
I'm trying to avoid buying a dress since it wasn't something I was planning for (so it's a pain money-wise and time-wise with the party being Thursday) but I will if I have to.
Re: Is this dressy enough?
I don't know if it's dressy enough or not, but I just am not a fan of the dress at all. It might be worth it to invest in a LBD in your current size for the future that you will love and can wear for stuff like this.
Love the shoes FWIW.
The dress says going out to me more than it says holiday party. I don't know what the Palencia party is like, though.
And interestingly... when I googled it... this post came up third.
Google is scary.
Yeah. I think it's a little too going out & less Christmas party. I ditto LB's suggestion of investing in a proper LBD.
Edited to take out party location
Yeah...I know it should be, but I'm pretty sure I've mentioned my weird shopping hangups to you guys. I never buy myself stuff unless I think I 100% need it. I really have to be convinced. I usually take DH with me because if not I won't buy anything. I always feel weird about spending money on myself, yet I'll buy stuff for DH no problem.
Plus, DH isn't going to be at the party. He can't go because of school. I already felt kind of bad going without him so spending money on a new dress makes me feel even worse.
I'm lucky to have a DH that encourages me to buy things for myself rather than make it worse so I'm getting better about it.
ETA: Reading this back, I am really fuucking strange.
I am going to go buy myself a dress and enjoy it. Maybe I'll even get some new accessories to go with it.
You do deserve it. You have worked hard to get where you are and there's no reason you shouldn't have a basic black dress for occasions such as this one
How is it that my BABY is going to be 3?
