Impromptu Holiday Party

So what started out to be us going to a friend's house to exchange gifts, is turning out to be about a dozen people coming over on Sunday afternoon for a holiday party! Well, this is unexpected! It'll be a combination of adults and kids. I'm not going to have a whole lot of time to prepare though with work and plans on friday and saturday.

Will it be tacky to do pizza, wings, and i'll make an appetizer or two? Also, plan on decorating holiday cookies with the kids while they're there.

Is that tacky? It's ok if you say yes...i can take it. Stick out tongue

Re: Impromptu Holiday Party

  • Personally I do not think thhis is tacky at all. It is convenient. After all part of the season is to celebrate your friendships and family. Getting together is the most important part not what is served and how much effort. Being an afternoon party on a Sunday, pizza is in keeping with a football Sunday theme. Kids and parents usually like pizza unless you have lactose intolerant guests.
  • If you could find the time to buy frozen apps at the grocery store and pick up a couple trays at the deli, I think it'd be much more festive.  Sure, pizza's easy, but there's nothing special about it and this is the holidays :)

Plus, deli trays and apps would be a little more nutritionally sound ;)

Didn't even think about deli trays! Thanks! I think I like that idea better.

And i am definitely getting some pigs in a blanket and little filo dough things filled with spinach at Costco. Score 1 for simple :)

  • I'd consider adding a big pan of mac and cheese.  It's hot and comfy and kids love it.  You can easily mix it up the day before and bake the day of.

Or chili or potato soup or pumpkin soup.  Soup just seems good this time of year and you can do as simple or complicated as you want and most can be done the day ahead.  I have a simple, simple tortellini soup recipe I can type up if you are interested.  When I say simple I mean no chopping or measuring.

  • If you've got access to Costco then def go the deli tray, pre-made dips, pre-cut veggies, frozen aps route. Just as easy and like pp said, a bit more festive.
