Interview help?

I have an interview later this week with a great firm. The problem is that sometimes I feel like I lack questions to ask because I feel that they answer most of the ones I had.

Any tips on how to be better with interviewing? What do they look for? What should I avoid? It's been a long time since I have interviewed.

Thank you so much in advance!

Re: Interview help?

  • Some questions to ask include:

Why is the position open? Turnover or expansion of the dept?

What do you like least/most about this job?

What are the next steps, do you feel I have the qualifications to make it to the next level, and when should I hear something?

What is your management style? (for potential bosses)

Is there anything we discussed that you want to talk about further, or need clairification?

My biggest tip is to practice, practice, practice. Look over typical (and even atypical) interview questions, and have answers for them at least formed in your mind. Practice with your DH, your BFF, your mom/dad, the dog, anyone who will listen. My other big tip is don't be afraid to say "I don't know." Sometimes they're looking more for how you'd think through an answer or solve a problem than what the answer is. You can always take a few moments, ask for clarificaiton, or say, "I don't know, but here's how I'd find out."
