Yay! I voted--with absolutely no problems.

I did have to wait over an hour, but that's not that big an issue to me (especially since an hour seemed like a bargain--many of our early voting sites are reporting 3 hour + waits...)

When I woke up and saw how nice and cool it was, I said to H, "I'm going to try and go vote today..."

So after re-reading all the ballot initiatives and amendments, I made myself a little cheat sheet to take in the booth and spent my hour-long wait working. (Thank you for the blackberry, boss!)

I thought the poll-workers were all really pleasant, I had no issues with the extra hyphen in my name, and the guy who explained the ballot and procedures to me actually cracked me up. Dude was fun :)

Everyone was real patient as they stood in line and there was no nastiness--not even in fighting for parking spots. (I think that may be a first for South Florida!)

So there you have it...a positive voting experience from Florida. There's hope for the 2008 election after all Wink

Re: Yay! I voted--with absolutely no problems.

  • I refuse to believe you actually live in S FL since you said 1) people were nice while waiting in a line and 2) no parking fights. ?I think you live elsewhere and only pretend to live there.

I'm just hoping lines are long enough so that my family gives up without voting for McCain :)

I did do my part and convinced a FL undecided friend (I was shocked!) to vote for Obama. ?So, even though I don't vote there anymore, I still had an impact :)?

  • Sibil--kid you not. People were NICE! lol.

I actually had flashbacks to 1992 and helping during Hurricane Andrew, when people didn't mind waiting in line and there was this whole "Let's help each other and our community" vibe thing going on.

I guess that's a drawback. Waiting to vote shouldn't remind someone of a natural disaster. Then again--this is FL. Voting here IS a natural disaster, bwahahahahahaha

  • Yes, post-Andrew people were nice. ?Well, except for those who looted abandoned homes. ?And those who painted warnings on their garages that said "Dog with AIDS. ?Trained to bite." ?Seriously, I saw that. ?But, pre-hurricane shopping? ?Evil! ?

Although, that might tie with the evil that occurs in December parking lots. ?I'm always forced, um, strongly encouraged to go home for Christmas, and that's about the worst time of year. ?I pretty much refuse to drive when I'm there at that time for the sake of my mental health.

  • YAY! I'm so glad it went smoothly!

  • Awesome! That's fantastic to hear. I shipped in my mail-in ballot last week. I hate our amendments - they are so hard to understand!
