How do you get a sabbatical?
I think I'm burned out on my job right now - just being at work is not motivating and I'm a pretty mediocre employee. I wish there was some way to take a maternity leave without the baby or a sabbatical without doing related work. I would gladly take 6-8 weeks off unpaid at this point in my life if only my job was still here when I got back.
I long for those days at the end of maternity leave where I was looking forward and excited to get back to work.

Are you united with the CCOKCs?
Re: How do you get a sabbatical?
you work for Charles Schwab for 5 years. then you get a 4 week fully paid sabbatical and you can add 2 weeks vacation to it.
and then you're off to snowboard from President's Day through April 1st...
be careful though - you come home to a bitter and jealous wife!!
That is freaking awesome for your DH and a little infuriating for you! But I would trade places with your DH in a heart beat. If only this were a lifetime movie and I could do that.
Ah, at my last job, I could probably just ask for 4 weeks unpaid off for focus-issues and since I'd been there almost 7 years, they'd consider it. But now I've only been at this job for 7 months (since we merged with a bigger company) and I know that wouldn't be the case.

Or work for Intel for 7 years and get 8 weeks fully paid sabbatical, and add 3 weeks vacation to it.
December 2014 I'm officially eligible. Yes, I'm counting the days.
Anyways. You can't take a leave of absence without pay? My company allows us a personal leave. "A Personal Leave is an approved unpaid leave, generally used for absences in excess of 14 calendar days, that is for compelling and exceptional personal circumstances."
Maybe mentally burned out is considered an exceptional circumstance?

I didn't know your DH worked there... DH always starts his w/in a few months of eligibilit - no way he would let it sit for a year. yours should just take it! he's actually been there 15 years so this will be his 3rd - I do sometimes get annoyed that he wouldn't rather take it in the summer and do a big family trip, but oh well.
