I'm thinking about getting my 6-year old an mp3 player. We have an old iPod touch that we let him use, but I want to separate "music player" from "video game player." He has trouble with using the thing in moderation and he's constantly messing around with it because of the display. I want him to be able to listen to music, though, because he really loves it, so I'd like to find an inexpensive mp3 player without a display. I'm considering the iPod shuffle, but it's pretty expensive for the small amount of storage space.
How do mp3 players without displays work? Do they just shuffle the music, or is there someway to choose what you want to listen to?
I guess a display would be okay as long as it was super basic and didn't have other apps to mess around with. I thought about a nano, but it's really more than I want to spend. I'm hoping to stay under $50.
Re: Recs for basic mp3 player?
The ipod shuffle has no way to select a song. You either play through the entire list in order or set it to shuffle.
The SanDisk Sansa gets good reviews on CNet, lets you select the song, and is in yoru price range.
