Introducing Miles Alan

Thank you everyone for all of your thoughts and prayers for our induction on Friday.  It was an eventful day and we are so happy to have our little man here at last.

Miles Alan was born on Friday at 3:55 pm.  He was 8 lbs 8.8oz and 21.5" long.

He is getting along great and has been breastfeeding pretty well so far.

Here are some pics... and of course the long birth story in case anyone is interested!

And here is the LONG birth story:

We arrived at the hospital at 6am for our induction.  They checked me and I was only at a tight three and about 70% effaced.  They started my IV and the pitocin got up and running.  For about two hours I didn't really feel much as they kept upping the dosage.  I even asked the nurse if it was working because I couldn't feel a thing.  Ha.

At 10 they decided to break my water as I was at a very stretchy 4.  I got the epidural at 11.

Around 11:30 my doc was in the hospital and decided to go ahead and get the monitor onto baby's head.  She placed the monitor and I thought that all was well.  About 15 minutes later my nurse accompanied by a few others burst in, called anesthesiology and immediately put an oxygen mask on me.  Apparently my blood pressure had taken a huge plunge.  I had no idea as I felt exactly the same.  The baby was not reacting well--- but we weren't in a danger zone just yet.

It was at that point that everyone's headsets went off.  In the whole wing.  Declaring a code blue in room 2305.  Yup.  Code Blue, everyone respond, my room.  My nurse starts freaking out.  She looks at my stats and I am fine.  Baby is fine.  But now there are about 20 people in our room and my doc comes rushing in in a major panic.  Apparently the room alarm system had malfunctioned and put out the code.  The anesthesiologist was standing next to me the whole time so I asked him, "what is a code blue?" He laughed and said, "Oh, it just means that you are pretty much dead, no big deal, right?"

After all the excitement of being a non-code blue code blue, They checked me again.  Still the same dilation.  AND they needed to turn off my pitocin so baby could relax.  I was so disappointed that we had to stall everything.  The early afternoon continued like this.  At 2:30 they decided to restart the pit.  I was at a 5 and still only 70% effaced.

2:45 I could feel the contractions again.  I was too nervous to hit my epidural dosing button because I didn't want baby to freak out.  At 3:15 I called the nurse because the contractions were really hurting.  Like really hurting bad.  She was getting ready to put a call in for my epi to be redosed but decided to go ahead and check me.  I was ready to push!

So, since we were so close, no redose of the epidural.  AND I had to not push until my doctor could get there.  It was torture.  Finally my nurse told me I could do little pushes to relieve the tension.

When the doctor came in we got ready to do the real pushes.  3 pushes and out he came, sunny side up just like his brother.  My doctor thinks I have a pelvic abnormality since both babies were face up and both delivered without too much pushing.

And for the TMI portion.  Only a small first degree tear and I somehow avoided the hemis that I got with Charlie.  I am barely bleeding anymore and felt really good after birth.  I honestly think that the epidural running out was a blessing since recovery has gone so much better.
