Single frozen home-cooked meal service?

My husbands Grandmother has MS and is confined to a wheel chair in her house and has home health workers stop by several times a day to get her meals and such.  She eats a lot of frozen dinners and we live 5 hours away, so we can't visit too often.  I mentioned to my DH that for Christmas we should get her some frozen homemade meals delivered to stock her freezer instead of Lean Cusine.

So is there a service where I could pay a meal-making place or a chef to make individual frozen meals for her so she could enjoy something a little more home-cooked?  Any ideas (she's in the Spokane, WA area)?

Is Schwan's much better than grocery store frozen meals?  I've never had really, so I don't know, but I thought they were still pretty mass-produced and high in salt/fat.

I'm thinking more like a make-your-own freezer meal place with fresh ingredients and healthy recipies that might assemble for me.  Maybe that doesn't exist.

  • I just looked at Schwans for the first time ever and they seem to have some LiveSmart meals that look a lot healthier.  Maybe I'll try that if I don't find a service or figure out how to search for one.

  • You could probably find a personal chef in that area to come and cook meals for her and put them in her freezer, but it is probably more economical to do one of the national frozen delivery services like Magic Kitchen or DineWise.

Maybe post on the local board for her area to see if anyone has any local suggestions?

  • Is it possible that she would qualify for Meals on Wheels.  I also recommend Magic Kitchen:

  • Thanks, these are all pretty good ideas and no, I don't think she would qualify for Meals on Wheels as of now.  I haven't found a local meal prep place that delivers to her area yet.
