Flash question re: Nikon d7000 - how do you turn it off?

Trying to take inside pictures with the Christmas tree, but it comes out bright and the lights don't even look like they are on.

  • There's a dial on the left hand side, and right now the arrow is pointing to a green A, right? There should be a lightening bolt with a circle around it and line through it (like the no smoking symbol, except no lightening...) and that's the setting you want. Fully auto but without flash.

Hope this makes sense... I have a D3000 but not in front of me. I believe the setup is the same.
