Dear Indiana Nesties,
Where are you? I need to find things to do this month since DH only has 4 days off until NYE. A GTG would be awesome (hint, hint)!
Lonely Girl South of Indy
Dear DH,
You ROCK! What you did for me this Chirstmas in the form of helping a friend makes you awesome. I'm pretty sure you made another girl cry tears of joy by making her dream much closer to reality! The best gift has always been you doing something amazing in my name. (I'll share details via PM for anyone that's a regular once it's official)
XOXO,
Your Very lucky Wife
Dear NYE,
Get here already! I need a new year since this one kind of bites, especially since I'm spending Christmas solo. I have an awesome dress and just made a faux fur jacket in one night to wear with it! We also got the table at the Supper Club to see out favorite band play that night. Can you tell I'm excited!
Signed,
Impatient Girl Who Wants to Party
Re: Open Letter Thursday!
Dear boss,
I don't see why we can't close for the 3 days the computer system will be expanding. We can't do much anyway, so why can't we just close up shop til it's ready?
Sincerely,
Frustrated
Dear Lola,
I understand that this is your first Christmas and you're excited about the tree and the presents, but I would greatly appreciate it if you'd stop using the tree as dental floss, and stay out of the presents. Especially Grandma's - she's allergic to you.
Love,
Me
Dear full time employment,
Please come find my husband soon, and make him a happy man.
- The woman that pays the bills.
I don't get places that do this, unless it's a place that has to be open 24/7 or is a life or death issue. They pay for the project, then the employees, and frustrate the clients as well as the employees (probably having to compensate the clients who are irked). It just costs more money in the end. Then they complain about being over budget.
His reasoning is, and I quote "there will be students that need to study for finals." Ok. Here's my response to this (I normally love my boss, but he can be a tad...insane): They are Purdue students. There are at LEAST 3 - THREE - libraries on Purdue campus fully equipped to handle anything a student throws at them. All three are huge, and have Wi-Fi. Then there are also dorms they could study in (imagine!), computer labs on campus, cafeterias on campus. Several people I know go to the bookstores in Lafayette or Starbucks - anywhere they can find a Wi-Fi connection to study that is outside of their home. Shoot, my own husband - a very soon to be Purdue grad - went and studied until 3 a.m. at the Aero building's computer lab. AND the county library has 3 branches, all equipped with Wi-Fi and tables, books, chairs, librarians. Son of a gun. I don't think it would kill us to be closed three days. Especially since the last time we upgraded, Evergreen told us we'd be down 3 days. That quickly turned into 9 days. 9 days! We can't do anything but check out the old fashioned way, can't even look at the catalog to know what's in or out - we gotta guess. Can't make new cards, can't check stuff in, so it piles up.
End rant. Sorry, didn't mean to go on a tangent. I'm going to go do my dishes now...
That's insanity, but it's also Purdue for you. One of my Grad School Profs was a Change Agent there and even with her Pollyanna attitude and positive outlook she said it was a nightmare. She basically said that anything the school can do to resist change that they will by any means necessary. She was working on merging the campuses like the IU system and every single campus had a different IT system and policy in place. They were our what not to do example.
I had friends that tried to take electives at other Purdue campuses during summer session when they would go to South Bend or Fort Wayne to go home for the summer hoping to take the classes. Purdue required them to transfer as if they were going to a completely different school, even if it was Purdue Cal, IPFW, IUPUI, or any of the others. It was actually easier to take the classes through IU campuses in those cities and do the tranfser from PU to IU and back to PU because IU had a better administrative system in place for transfers and actually helped the students. I can't even fathom how much tuition they have thrown at IU over the years doing things that way.
