Morning girls! I'm up eating breakfast and thought I'd start the thread. I started making my grandpa's apple butter recipe last night in the crock pot. It had to simmer all night and its smells better than a Yankee Candle in this house. In 30 minutes I have to start jarring it. It's going to seem weird putting it in the pantry instead of the fridge. This is my first time canning anything! Hope you all have a great day!

Re: Thursday randoms
GL with the apple butter. I've never tried making something like that. I've made freezer jam once and I guess it turned out well the boys liked it.
Today I'm going to have movie day with my friend that has Cancer. She had her 6th chemo treatment this week and Thursday and Friday's are her weak days. We have a 6 hour's of DVD's to watch. Wish me good travels I'm going to her place and they live in Hastings and I'm hoping that the snow will wait until I get home later tonight.
I have never had or made apple butter before. It is on my To-Do list though. I think I really just want my house to smell wonderful. LOL!
Deeder that is so nice of you to go spend the day with your friend. It's the little things like what you are doing that is going to help her the most.
Sorry to hear about Noah's crabbiness. This morning I had to fight Brielle to get moving. It ended up with her in tears & me with a headache. I'm hoping for a better day tomorrow.
Last night I found vanilla pizzelles at Aldi. I spread some Nutella between two of the pizzells for a super yummy treat!
I have never made apple butter, but that's something I might have to try.I got a TON of apples from the co-op (I had no idea how much a half bushel was . . . )
LOVE freezer jam. I made some strawberry last summer and it is so good.
I'm at work today, not feeling 100% but I'm sick of laying around.
I'm so mad! I just turned the apple butter into canning jars and it only filled 2 of them! 16 hours of cooking for 2 jars! At least its not hard work but its going to take forever to make a decent batch. I can't believe how much it condensed! Sorry Charity, I don't think there's going to be even enough left for me! lol
Deeder, you are a very sweet friend. I just said a prayer for your friend.
Amachuta, I hope Noah just got up on the wrong side of the crib today and snaps out of it soon.
Missy, what are pizzelles? I do love Nutella...speaking of things I haven't had in ages...
Wendy, I hope you keep feeling better!
DANGIT! LOL
Mike just brought home 2 jars of Nutella. Being from Europe, he loves that stuff!
Pizzelles are the cookies that my 91 year old grandpa makes. In a few weeks, we'll get a cookie tin full of them. <dance dance dance with joy>. I am one of 10 grandkids. That's a lot of pizzelles!
Hello! Twice this morning I started to post in this thread and was then interrupted.
I ended up with a lot of apples after a co-op pick-up in September when I didn't realize how big a peck was. I thought about making apple butter, but decided it sounded like a too long and time-consuming process at the time.
I made freezer jam (blueberry) for the first time this summer. It was fun! I've asked for canning supplies for Christmas.
"Nesticle"... tee hee.
Yay! Enjoy!
I am feeling the same way. We shopped for my sister very early to ship it to Australia in time. But once that was done, I feel like we lost the momentum. Now it's 2.5 weeks out and most of the people on the list are still...well, on the list!
Unless you have a crockpot the size of Texas, you would be right.
I LOVE Java Gym. I hope Noah appreciated the peace offering.
It looks like we were all castrated. I see no nesticles on anyone here.
I'm 90% done Xmas shopping, which is strange since I normally wait until the last minute. I suppose since we're celebrating before Xmas this year due to our vacation I may have been more spurred into action.
You have one
Ha! And it's so lonely it's blue.
*snort*
Blue nesticles.
Do you stir it often? The article you sent me suggested stirring every hour or two. Being home and awake every hour for 11 hours to stir wasn't possible for me.
