Cookie cutters

I'd like to buy some cookie cutters this year so I can make cookie's for Evan's daycare class and teachers. My mom rarely made cookies to decorate (she always made chocolate chip), so I don't think I have used a cookie cutter since I was 5.

Any tips on what type to get? I see plastic, metal, some that are just the shape, some with handles, and so on. Which are easiest to use and produce the best shape?

I like the plastic ones better b/c they don't rust.  I feel like the metal ones (moreso the cheapo ones) tend to rust after the first few uses, even if you are careful about drying them right away.  I also like the ones with the rubberized grips (but they usually have a metal bottom, but a good enough quality not to rust as much), but they are more expensive, and only worth it if it's a shape you will use a lot (circles, hearts, etc.)

If it's a novelty theme, that I won't use often, I'll just get whatever I can find to go with that theme.  If it's something you think you will use a lot - then you can get a better quality.

Sur La Table has a ton of them. They can also talk to you about what to get, care, etc. I just picked up a bunch there, after a Viking cookie class on Monday.

I'm on the search for a Penguin cookie cutter for my swim team. Has anyone seen such a thing? I was hoping to find one in a store so I don't have to pay shipping on a little cookie cutter.

Alton Brown had a great special last year on sugar cookies. He says plastic are much better and to avoid any with too many corners and details and such. I find most of mine on Amazon or at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, GardenRidge.

I have heard metal/copper is better due to the "sharper, thinner edge" to move through & cut the dough easier.  You don't want a cutter with a thick outer edge.
