Won $100!

So yesterday I went to a really fun tradeshow for work. Basically there are a bunch of hotels and vendors giving away a lot of paper and free stuff and you enter your business card at each booth for a chance to win prizes like ipads, hotel stays etc. They also have a grand prize drawing where they draw things like cash, trips throughout the afternoon. I put my business card in and 2 minutes later a mutual friend of mine screamed at me that I won $100 cash and was joking around and commenting on how it was unfair as I just put my card in! Anyway, 2 minutes later, they drew her name for the other $100 cash prize! It was pretty funny as about 1,000 people go to that thing!

Anyway, the way I see it is that I went in there without $100 cash and wasn't expecting it, so I want to give it back and spend it on people who need it this Xmas. I already spent $50 on adopting an Angel through the Salvation Army and buying some clothes and toys for a needy baby but I really want to make that last $50 go as far as I can. Does anyone have any suggestions for things I might not be thinking of? Some grocery stores let you buy a bag of groceries for $10 to give to a needy family so I thought I could do that. I was also thinking about buying $5 giftcards to Subway or somewhere similar and handing them out to homeless people. What does everyone think?

Re: Won $100!

  • That is awesome Caroline. The grocery store bags are a good idea. Do you have a homeless shelter in town? We have one downtown and for so much money (I think $2 or $6 equals one meal) they can provide a meal to a homeless person. You could donate some money there and that will help provide meals or you can get some gift cards and hand out. Subway is healthier but could you do McDonald's that way they can probably get more for the money as I am thinking they can order off the $1 menu and get a little more food or even use it more than once since Subway it would be used all at one time.

That is sweet of you and I know the people who benefit from that $100 will appreciate it.
