would you even bother?

I have been considering changing jobs after baby is born due to my current hours and issues with my boss.

I applied for a position that I am seriously interested in and they called me today for a phone interview. I made it through to the in person interview and they want me to come in next tuesday.

I will have to go out and buy something to wear since I dont have any maternity clothes that would be interview appropriate. Im sure I will look ridiculous interviewing 9 months pregnant.

The part that really sucks is that the position starts Jan 9. Baby would be 3 weeks old. There is no way I could handle that.

Do I take myself out of the running completely? Or interview and hope they just keep my info on file for future openings? I was honest with the recruiter about the timeline.

Re: would you even bother?

  • I would.  But only because if you do it well enough, they might hold the job.  Or you might be the first one on the list for the next hire.

Of course, you're talking to a girl who went back to work when her oldest was 8 days old, so there's that.

  • I would interview. Timelines are always subjective, and if they want you back enough, they will wait until you're ready. Even if they can't or won't wait, putting yourself on their radar is always a good thing. I interviewed for one job when DD was 4 weeks old, and ended up coming back in to interview for a different position altogether, one that they actually created for me, when she was 6 weeks old. Started when she was 9 weeks. I absolutely say go for it!

  • Interview. You said you were planning to go back at 8 weeks, right? They might be willing to hold it for you. Plus, your baby might come early :)

  • I would go.  If you are really the right person for them, they will hold the opening for a few more weeks for you.   Frankly, I'd rather hire someone who was about to give birth any day now and would start after leave (that I wasn't paying for), than someone who would be there for a few months training, then go on leave.
  • I agree.  I think you should go for it.
  • Do it! If you're the right person they will hold it for you.

I agree with Tara.  Worst case scenario, they don't hire you. Best case, they hire you and agree to hold the position for a month or so!

  • I would go through with the interview. You were honest with the recruiter, so maybe they will hold the job! If it doesnt work out, then at least you tried.
  • I worked with a nurse who moved here and started a new job 3 weeks post partum....wouldn't recommend it!I would still interview in hopes that if they like you enough they will hold the position until your maternity leave ends!
