Last Friday I had a flat tire. I took DH's car and when I pulled into work, his tire light came on. It was super cold that day, but the light never went off. I've been asking DH if he's checked the tire and he said it was fine.
We drove up to V's school winter party tonight and the car sounded weird. When we got there, the tire was almost completely flat (which means no, he didn't check the tire). By the time we got to a gas station to put air in it, the tire had ripped open.
As we were getting out the spare and a jack, a man stopped and asked if we needed help. He had just bought his own jack and tire wrench and changed our tire for us. I'm sure he saved us a ton of time while we struggled with it. I can change tires, but we don't have a tire wrench. I'm just so grateful for him to stop and help us. Tons of good karma for him.
And there goes any Xmas gift I hoped for. Our tires run $150 a piece.
Re: thank goodness for the kindness of strangers
I'm glad someone was nice and helped you - my car battery died in the Walmart parking lot two weeks ago, and no one would help me. One chick even laughed at me when I asked if she could give me a jump! I hope he gets the good karma he has coming.
And we're in the no Christmas gift boat too - two unemployed parents does not leave much left for gifts!
No more baby siggie pics. Boo.
So happy he helped! What kind of tires are they? Embarrassingly enough, I didn't rotate my tires often enough and two are crap and the other two are alright. Still have them in my garage (bought 4 new tires this summer).
The tires are one of these... too cold to go to the detached garage to check unless these match what you are looking for...
P255/70R18 Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain
LT255/75R17 (32-inch) BFGoodrich all-terrain
I remember Jeep switched the tires in the middle of the production year, but I'm pretty sure I have the Goodyears, but in the BFGoodrich size.
ETA: these are stock from my 2008 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. 20-22k miles on them. Free if they work for you!
PAIF and SAIF welcome. IVF questions welcome, too.

Crap about the tire and the money - sucks!
But awesome about the helpful dude.
Can I change a tire? Yep, dad made us each change a tire on our old Wagoneer before we could take our driver's test.
Do I want too? Hell no.
Do I want to with Coop in the car, probably getting upset? Double hell no with a flaming cherry on top.
Glad he was there and helped you guys!

Yeah, fortunately my flat last week was repairable. Otherwise it would be 2 tires for us in a week. I should just be thankful it's only one new tire!

That is a hella expensive tire!
However, I do love it when strangers help a person out. It warms my heart.
