Anyone work in insurance?

I got my car insurance bill and it is higher then in the past and instead of being December to June (and June to December) this one is November to June and I can't figure out why.....I'll call the insurance company but I'm not convinced they will be able to explain it considering it took them 1.5 years to understand that when you hyphinate your name its OldName-NewName not NewName-OldName they kept arguing that I was wrong.....UGH frustrating night....

Re: Anyone work in insurance?

  • everyone's rates went up this year... apparently premiums or something went up... I know this as I called a few months ago about my own and my mom is in ins.   mine is only like $50 more a year though, if it's way more than that then i dunno!

    good luck!

  • Can I ask what company you are written with? I know a lot of rates went up this year. The main reason is because no matter where in the world, if there is a big disaster (as there have been many in the last year) the insurance company's reinsurance rates go up with the big companies that provide that coverage for them, so it makes everyone's insurance go up a bit across the board. There is no reason your term should change, but usually terms are 6 months long, so I am not sure why they are counting November twice (last renewal, new renewal) and giving you a 7-month term policy. Very odd. It never, NEVER hurts to get your insurance requoted with other companies. I will suggest that you have a variety of people give you some quotes. I know online always seems easiest, but those companies tend to hike up rates at renewals more often. Call a couple of agents. You can do some captive agents (State Farm, Allstate, American Family), but also do some independent agents. Those are the ones that have licenses to write for multiple companies, so they can compare you to a slew of what is out there.

  • Ditto Danie!  My hubby works in insurance, but not with personal auto accounts.  But he always says that you can't really stay with one company for too long, they will inevitably raise your rates, so you should always price around every few years.  I can give you the name of the agency that quoted our auto and home policies (they aren't too far from you - in Bloomfield) if you want to message me privately on FB

  • Thanks for all the helpful info ladies.....I wish this nonsense was easier....the thought of changing three policies is so daunting. Seriously being a grownup is hard!
  • That blows!  Our insurance actually went down this year.  We have our auto and homeowners grouped which is super nice.  I second Danie's suggestion that you find an insurance agent that can write for multiple carriers.
