Morning all TGIF!

Morning everyone! How's it going? Do you have big weekend plans?

QOTD: When you were growing up was there anything from a religion/ belief system  other than yours that you wished was part of your religion/ belief system?

Re: Morning all TGIF!

  • Morning! I feel. like. crap. I had hoped the cold had reached its climax yesterday, but apparently not. Luckily it doesn't seem to be hitting DD as hard, otherwise I might be re-thinking the flight. BIL and his wife are coming over today to entertain DD while I finish... um, ok, I mean "start"... packing. I love them.

QOTD: When I was growing up, the only other religious/belief system I was exposed to other than the Lutheran Christianity in which I was raised was Wicca (I know - what?). That was because a young woman I knew was into it. And who wouldn't like the thought of being able to cast spells to get what you want? I grew out of that pretty quickly after freaking myself out a time or two, though.

  • Morning! Pretty busy day ahead of me in work, but then it is the weekend!! Will go Christmas shopping tomorrow morning with DH and N (I know, a little mad) and then we'll buy our Christmas tree and maybe decorate while N is napping.  Don't know how safe it will be as she was practicing getting up on all fours yesterday evening... I envisage a crawler very soon!!!!  We'll probably visit my parents at some stage over the weekend and I'll catch up with a friend I haven't seen in a while on Sunday.

QOTD: There wasn't anything really that I'd have cherry picked from another religion (brought up Catholic).  But I do remember babysitting for a Jewish family on Christmas Eve during the day one year (it was my friend's regular gig but she couldn't do that day) and the 2 kids were asking about Santa and could they sneakily leave a stocking out and would he come anyway (as in, leave a stocking out but not tell their parents) I didn't know what to say to them cos they were still in the age group that believed but yet he didn't exist in their religion... I think I told their mum about the conversation.  Ireland didn't have a big Jewish community at all, it just happens that one of the two synagogues in the city was near us and this is still the case.

  • Morning!  TGIF indeed...I'm ready for this week to be finished!  I desperately need to clean later...the house is a hot mess, but otherwise, I just need to get through work and I'll be in the clear!  Tomorrow is a day full of shopping in Antwerp with a friend, so I'm excited!

QOTD:  The only other religion I was exposed to growing up was Catholicism.  I remember thinking how neat it was that there was such structure to the mass, and how I wished our church had something like that.

  • Good morning. 3am here. Up feeding minibini and then can sleep another hour before getting back up to drive DH to work. Need. 2nd. Car. Now.  TGIF at least. Today: driving DH and then work. Then trying to catch up on neglected chores over the weekend.

QOTD: I knew a lot of Catholic and Jewish kids. All I really knew until high school was Christians celebrate Christmas and Jews celebrate Hannukah. The actual core beliefs I knew very little about as a kid, but I did know there were "other religions." I was raised Unitarian Universalist which for us amounted to more or less agnostic. We celebrated Christmas and Easter but in a secular way.  The only thing I remember wishing was part of my religion was some sort of more specific ritual or routine like the Catholics seem to have a lot of. Also I wanted a first communion or bat mitzvah like my friends!

  • Morning. Today I'm getting everything ready to go to Zurich today for a longish weekend. I'm so excited to go, it's a yearly trip to the collectors market there and then Sunday we're hitting up the zoo!

QOTD: My family is Church of England, I had a lot of friends who were catholic and I thought the idea of confession cool.

Ha! You've never been frog-marched to the church and basically shoved into a confession box and been made to tell the priest that you lied, fought with your brother, taken money from your mum AND not gone to mass the previous Sunday... and had 10 Hail Marys and 5 Our Fathers to say for contrition!!!

  • Morning. Around 11 last night, Georgia got up and was crying and coughing and after a quick google search I think she has croup. She has been miserable so she slept on me for much of the night. it was not a fun night. We were going to go into London this afternoon and do shopping, but now I'm not sure. Although she seems so out of it, maybe she wouldn't mind a long stroller ride.

  • Good morning! TGIF for sure! On Sunday we're going to a christmas market with a new American friend and her husband, so I'm excited about that.

QOTD: I was raised Episcopalian, but grew up in an area with a lot of Catholics and Jews, as well as other protestant denominations. I remember at one point being jealous of my Jewish friends who got a bar/bat mitzvah, but I grew out of that pretty fast, haha. I was happy with my church, but enjoyed going to other types of services too.

  • Good Morning! Yay  - TGIF! Tonight DH and I are going into Brussels, we have a scuba club christmas dive at NEMO33 (deepest recreational pool in the world - depth 34m) and then dinner at their Thai restaurant afterwards. Saturday and Sunday we will be in Brugge, checking out the Ice Festival and then the Christmas market. It's going to be a full weekend, but a fun one!

QOTD: I grew up Catholic and pretty much knew nothing about other religions. I do remember thinking one of my friends was so lucky - she just believed that as long as you TRULY believe in Jesus you will automatically go to heaven. It's so much easier than all the Catholic rules and guilt!

DH and I are both "Catholic" but we do not really practice anymore. We haven't been to church at all since being over here. It's hard to decide if we should raise our kids catholic or not - I cannot imagine them not having a baptism; but at the same time DH said we cannot be hypocrites - teach them all the ruiles, but not follow them ourselves....sigh.

We're headed to the Maldives on Christmas Eve!

  • Morning! Finally mailed my Christmas package to the USA today. Hope it gets there ontime - other than that not much going on besides my normal Sunday lunch with the in-laws.

QOTD: When I was about 12 or 13 there was a young Catholic family in the neighborhood. I was befriended by the young mother - her child was just a baby - and I spent a fair bit of time with them. I considered converting to Catholicism at that time. I like the ritual of it.

  • Morning! I'm on my way to have lunch with an old prof now. I had a pretty lousy night with an overtired baby but today is going well so far. Qotd: I went to a variety of churches starting with Baptist, including Messianic Judiasm, and ending with nom-denominational. My mom is interesting and my dad is athiest. I was also exposed to judiasm and mormonism as thete are a lot in the Seattle area. I don't think I missed out on anything. Eta: sorry for typos. This is my first time posting from my phone.

  • Morning! I'm sick too and think I'll have to cancel some of my weekend plans so I can rest, which sucks. However, I can't risk being sick next week too because we have five NCT classes to attend and I can't go to classes full of pregnant women when I'm sneezing, coughing and fighting off a fever.

So I was going to have drinks with coworkers tonight, lunch with the girls tomorrow afternoon, drinks with another friend tomorrow night, church on Sunday, going a friend's for Sunday lunch and coffee with my cousin Sunday night. I'm going to cancel most of that. Grumble, grumble.

OK, I'm done with my pity party.

  • Morning!! Having an awesome day :-)  We went out for a friend's birthday last night and had a blast. Slept in this morning and then went to Zumba.

Our friend is coming in tonight (works in Paris, but is on business in Abu Dhabi), so he's flying over to see us! :-)

I need to bake for a event this week, but that might have to wait until Monday night :-P

QOTD: I was raised Lutheran, and I was very lucky to have parents who allowed me to explore. I found a youth group at a Presbyterian church with some friends, and ended up switching religions in high school. I've remained Presbyterian, and got married in the Presbyterian church. I visited a Mormon church and Catholic church with friends when I was younger - but it never interested me as much as the Presby church did.

Have fun in Zurich. I love the Zoo there so much! It's the perfect size for families. They are upgrading a lot of stuff too. I secretly miss Zurich a lot. Shhh don't tell my husband.

I went to bed so early that now I am awake and can't fall back asleep. Chicago had it's first true dusting of snow today. Which means it all goes downhill from there. Today I'm going to visit a college to talk with admissions. Tonight I don't have anything planned. Making balsamic chicken for dinner and perhaps DH and I will watch a movie on Netflix. I might make a batch of Chex Mix too.

QOTD: I always though Hanukah was a interesting holiday to celebrate. I always thought it was bizarre that my catholic school mates went to CCD on Thursdays. I was glad I didn't have to go.

I love the zoo there, I wish it was going to be colder so the penguins should "march" but it's supposed to be around 4 so too warm :( But I'm still looking forward to the tropical house...oh LOVE!

Oh gosh I totally forgot about the penguin march. We saw it past this winter and it's so cute. To bad you can't see that. :( But maybe you will see the tiger cubs! We couldn't see them in September since they were all hiding. But they should be more active now that they are older.

I like the tropical house but by the time we get to it we were always tired. I hope that one day I can go back when they finish the new elephant area.
