Snowy Friday randoms.

Good morning!

Question of the day: Why do people keep posting pictures of an elf doll on FB?  Please, someone enlighten me!

Re: Snowy Friday randoms.

  • Elf on the Shelf is huge this year.  Something about an elf sent from Santa to keep on eye on the kids and it moves around the house... I don't know.  The elves I'm seeing are certainly NOT on any shelves.  They're cute, but 15 more days of multiple elves that's a lot.

  • Good morning!  Drive to work was surprisingly uneventful.  People were driving as they should- carefully.  I was a few minutes late due to my stop for coffee, but on Friday, it is a must.

My family has had SC birds for a few generations, at least, and it's the same idea.  They keep an eye on the kids and report back to Santa.  On Christmas, Santa leaves a few notes from the report.  I'm going to start taking pictures of the Santa Claus birds and post them.  It'll be a little difficult, though, as the birds are invisible.

  • Aha.  Gotcha.  "Elf on the shelf" helps my googling efforts.  My searches for "elf doll" were not fruitful.  I get it now.
  • Sorry! I'm guilty of posting pictures of our elf, Bessie. Bri loves her but it hasn't helped with her behavior. The elves are really creepy looking! LOL!

My drive sucked! I was driving carefully, but others before me didn't which caused a few backups. There was a lot of us late today.

No need to apologize.  I was just curious what it was all about.  As a non-parent, I didn't get the memo.  Wink

  • What should we talk about today?  I got a ton accomplished at work yesterday, and now I feel like taking a little break on this Friday.

Ha! Don't worry, as a parent I didn't get the memo until someone mentioned it at story time. After that Bri wanted to know if we would be getting an elf. So we were sucked in. LOL!

  • Missy, don't be sorry.  I was going to add that disclaimer for all elf caretakers.  Some elf adventures have been funny, but there are a looooottttt of them in my feed. ;)

Did anyone see that the Dugger's miscarried their 20th child?  Very sad.  While I think it's crazy they have that many children, and were pg with another, any loss will be heartbreaking.

Yeah, I saw that.  I hope she stops getting pregnant now.

  • We could discuss Rick Perry ending Obama's war on religion (what?!), and how he thinks it's too bad that gays can openly serve in the military while kids can't celebrate Christmas in school.

    Woah.

I have not heard about any of this.  But, whoa, indeed!

  • I hit a curb on the way to work today. Ughh!  I Hopefully there was no damage. I had to bring my car in today to get new tires, so I told them to check the rims.

I very curious to see what their take will be on this. This first miscarriage was a sign from God that they shouldn't use BC anymore.  Between Josie's premature birth and this, I wonder if they would take it as a sign of God that her body has had enough.

  • Well I'm stuck at my parents until my day get home from work. I borrowed their mustang for my trip yesterday and it isn't fully prepared for winter driving so when I brought SS over for the bus it wasnt the brst drive. On the brite side they have On Demand and I'm catching up on a few shows I like.

I knew about the Elf but didn't know what the purpose was. I think I like the bird idea better.

Yesterday's visit was really good. We got through all of Diwnton Abbey and had some time to talk. She is fighting the mental battle and feels alone. Her family isn't being that supportive and basically said we just can't deal with you having cancer. ???? They even called her selfish!?????!!  I don't get it. I feel bad b/c i can tell she is in pain. The muscle spasm start Thursday afternoon and I could see her eyes well up with tears. They live out in Hastings and its pretty remote. She doesn't have a lot of friends and is pretty shy. I'm hoping I can bring her out of her shell some.

  • Deeder, it sounds like your friend is lucky to have you in her life.

Indifferent  I'm so torn between being outraged and laughing hysterically!  What a tool.

  • Has anyone here been following Colbert's Super PAC actions?  It's a brilliant way to use comedy to focus on a serious issue.

    No.  Do tell.

Deeder, you are a good friend.

  • Good morning,

Snowy on the other side of the state too. Drive to work was ok though. I'm hoping it stops and gets plowed by the time I hit 96 this afternoon. I'm glad everyone got to work safely.

H says we are going to a comedy club tonight. Interesting. I feel bad because I have finals next week so I should be studying. But I know that all he does is go to work and then back home since we don't know anyone out there yet. So, I will sacrifice a night of studying (gladly I might addBig Smile) because I know he needs/wants to get out.

Making friends as adult is so hard. I hope his co-workers are as nice as they seem so far.

Deeder- I am so sorry for your friend. Many prayers to her. Sounds like you are an incredible encouragement to her. What a blessing.

    Have a great day ladies!

  • Deeder you're an amazing friend! How awful of your friends family! I want to go slap them!

I won't worry too much about the elf. ;o)  We're trying to have fun finding places for her to hang out.

BnG enjoy your time this weekend! Sometimes a little relaxation is better for the mind then studying.

I have to catch up on the Rick Perry happenings.

    No.  Do tell.

Okay.  So, Stephen Colbert created a real Super PAC.  In character, he talks about it on his show all the time, literally raises money for the PAC, and has been using it this election season.  The tongue-in-cheek purpose is to illustrate how much power the people behind PACs have in our election system.

Colbert has produced ads which have actually ran on Iowa TV.  Here's an example of one which supports Rick "Parry".

Now, they've gotten involved in South Carolonia where they're trying to get a referendum on the ballot which asks voters to select whether "Corporations are people" or "Only people are people".  It was added to the ballot, but the South Carolina Supreme Court (they got involved!) ruled to have it -- and all other referenda -- removed.

Watch this clip and this clip from his show a couple of nights ago.  The second one, with the SC Dem chair is funny (that guy has a job in comedy if the political thing doesn't work out!

  • BnG, nice to see you pop in here!  Enjoy your weekend!
  • Did anyone else see WOOD TV's report on their "investigation" into the snow cone machines?  B and I saw that the other night, and it was kind of funny.

In looking for those Colbert videos, I just realized that he picked up on the story (after Fox News ran it - duh) and ran a sement last night!

    Watch here.
