Thoughts on Pujols?

I think it's waaaay too much money to pay him for that long!

Re: Thoughts on Pujols?

  • Let me start by saying I'm a die hard Angles fan.  Across the board us fans are THRILLED to get Pujols.  Yes, its a lot of money and for a very long time but I don't think the powers that be expect him to produce for the full 10 years.   Pujols will bring in a lot of revenue and we have big contracts coming off the books this year and next so I see it as a breakeven money wise.

Arte (the owner) was bitterly disappointed in not going post the last 2 seasons.  He wants to win the WS and is willing to do whatever it takes to do so.   Our team has been comprised of misfits and old Yankee has beens, now we're a real contender.  Offense has been a big problem for us and I think Albert will make all the boys better in that area.

  • sorry, just getting Pujols does not make the Angels a contender.  pitching is what wins rings. plus, more than likely he is really more like 35-36 years old, not 31.

  • Oh, I see you're from Boston.  Sorry about Lackey.
  • As a lifelong Cardinals fan, I'm disappointed, and yet glad the Cards didn't shell out that much money for someone who spends a good chunk of time injured and/or under-performing. He's had a lot of great moments, but not $250 million worth. You're going to be paying him $25 mil a year when he's old and injured (again) to be a DH.

  • As a Brewers fan, I'm ecstatic to have Pujols out of the NLCS.

I'm also dreading that, because of this move, the Cards will have the extra funds to potentially get Fielder from us, and with Braun most likely out my team is pretty much going to be in the sh!tter.

hahah, is that supposed to be a dig? the dude sucks, always has always will. I'm not broken up about it.  Lester, Buchholz and even fried chicken eating Beckett will be a much bigger problem for Pujols and the rest of your team, 10x a year :)

  • I'm a St. Louisan, and the general consensus from the people I've spoken to is good riddance.  Pujols kept going on about how it wasn't about money, blah blah blah.  In the end, it was about money.  Now the Angels are stuck with a guy they have to pay a fortune for but is more than likely only going to get worse as he gets older.  We had offered him a 5-year contract, which I think is much more reasonable, but I guess the millions we were offering wasn't good enough.  Oh well.  It's not like we don't have other stars on our team.
