Here's my menu for our Christmas Open House. Just a quick note:
We won't be serving alcohol. Most of friends and family don't drink. I am in no way judging those who do serve alcohol at their parties... we DO drink on occasion and serve alcohol at some events based upon the guests. In addition, I tend to steer away from the fancier recipes just because it's not the style of our group. For example, with our crowd "plain old" chocolate chip cookies would go over much much better than the more festive cranberry walnut cookies.
Buffalo Chicken Dip (in a small crockpot)
Crackers, Pita Chips, and Celery Sticks for dipping
Sweet and Sour Lil' Smokies (also in a crockpot)
Veggies and Hummus (or dip) (celery sticks, baby carrots, cucumber slices, broccoli, cauliflower, cherry tomatoes)
Cupcakes (Chocolate with vanilla icing and Vanilla with chocolate icing. I sooo wanted to do chocolate with cherry icing, but I'm afraid they wouldn't be too popular with our crowd)
Cookies (Chocolate chip, sugar, molasses, and candy cane blossoms)
A candy buffet for take home goodie bags
Punch
Coffee
Hot Chocolate
Re: Another menu... suggestions needed!
Oh, just do the chocolate cupcakes with cherry icing. The people with "boring" palattes can eat one of the other six desserts you are providing!! I bet you will get raves on the chocolate cherry cupcakes.
Might suggest adding a cheese plate or Chex Mix.

You're absolutely right about the cupcakes.... cherry icing it is! The buffalo chicken dip is very cheesy, so that's why I was steering away from a cheese tray... I think Chex Mix would be great!

Hi! Haven't seen you in forever.
Are you sure on the sweet and sour smokies and buffalo dip? For a crowd that can't handle chocolate-cherry, they seem like they have too much personality.
Regardless, if you add cheese and crackers or crackers and dip, I think you'll cover a couple more of your plain eaters.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
I think you need some more savory. My plain jane ILs are all about the deviled eggs. Peanut butter dip with apples is also a big hit with the family and kids (the celery sticks would also be good with that).
I don't know it just seems a lot of sweet.
Yes, sorry I haven't been around much. It's been a very busy few weeks!
I'm pretty set with the smokies and dip. I've done both before and they're been a hit. We're an odd group I guess lol. I'm going to add either cheese and crackers or some Chex Mix as previously suggested. Thanks!

I've been tossing around the idea of deviled eggs. I have a deviled egg carrier that has gel in the base so you can freeze it and it will keep the eggs cold, so it would be very easy to do. Thanks for the suggestion! There won't be any kids attending, so I'm not too worried about having kid friendly foods. I'm going to add a few more "salty" snacks to help balance out the sweets, but I must say, I run in a sweets crowd lol Thanks again!
