I'm obviously not a fan of Rick Perry, but this video shocked me.
"...you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something
wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our
kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school..."
As if that's not offensive enough in print, the derision in his voice when he says "gays" is sickening.
Re: Rick Perry- wow.
I didn't watch the video but I"m confused by the quote. What does one have to do with the other? The bottom line is keeping religion and government separate...right? What am I missing here?
Here is the whole text:
I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.
As President, I'll end Obama's war on religion. And I'll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage.
Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again.
I'm Rick Perry and I approve this message.
With the tone, it implied that being gay was bad and the country is going to hell in a handbasket because we're okay with gay people serving the country but not religion in school.

Agreed. And he's our governor and doesn't even understand "religion in schools" laws. Kids are absolutely able to pray/meditate/etc. in schools whenever they want. That's a good thing. Schools can't *make* them do it. That's ALSO a good thing.
And when I was searching around and trying to figure out if this was for real, I cam across an interview where he made some flippant comment about how schools should lead celebrations/lessons/etc. on Christmas/etc. and "If some parents don't like it, their kid can just sit by themselves and play tic tac toe or something." The way he said it was disgusting. *And* that's already a right that parents have and exercise! (Although kids are *not* made to sit by themselves in a corner and play freaking tic-tac-toe.)
I just hope this botched presidential campaign will get people off their tushes for the next governor election.
