SUV Rec?

We are in the market for a new vehicle due to H's wreck on Wednesday. (Everyone is fine.) We are leaning towards a SUV. I want something that is safe, fuel efficient, and dependable. We'll probably buy used as we weren't planning on getting another vehicle for a couple of years. Any recommendations?

Re: SUV Rec?

  • We rented two SUV's on vacation two weeks ago, and loved both of them.  We had a Chevy Tahoe for three days, and a GMC Acadia for three.  I loved the Tahoe the most, but found I liked the size of the Acadia better once I started driving that.  I didn't realize how HUGE the Tahoe was.  Surprisingly, they both had about the same gas mileage; the Acadia was just a tiny bit better (but not noticeable).

  • If you want something reasonably priced, safe, fuel efficient and is roomy, I would go for a Kia. They are somehow able to keep their prices low (even on brand new) but yet have amazing consumer reports.
  • My parents bought a Kia Sorento brand new in 2004, they still have it and the have had 0 problems with it.  In fact they are looking at buying a new one.  They would def. recommend them!
  • Well, I'm now a minivan mom (and actually really liking it!!), but I had a Hyundai Santa Fe before that and it was a great car.  Not too big, and fit the 3 of us plus our small dog really well.

  • I have a Jeep Grand Chorkee, and LOVE it! It's been my baby since '08, it fits the big car seat fine and now that I've moved it to the passengerside, there is more room in the back seat, and we did fine with it in the middle.

My mom has a Tahoe, and unless you want to drop $50K on a new one, do it! I love the Tahoe. Once my Jeep is paid off, H is taking it over, and I'll get something newer. I'm kind of looking at Ford Explorer, not too big/not too small. I am a Chevy girl, I just wish the'd bring back a non-station-wagon looking SUV, like the fromer Trailbalzer.

  • i have a Subaru and LOVE it - I still can't believe how it drives on snow/ice!
