DVR/digital TV question

We have had Time Warner cable (Albany) as long as I can remember.  A long time ago, we took our box in because it was freezing up a lot (like we'd go to play a movie and it would just freeze up - re-booting etc didn't help).  The box was probably 5+ years old, so I remember when we got the new one, it was totally different - a totally updated version.

We have been in our new house for 6+ years now, and the digital cable box seems to be a little slow again.  Do you think I should 'trade up' again?  I assume they get better every couple years?

Re: DVR/digital TV question

  • I should add - the downside would be losing some of the shows we have taped that we didn't get around to seeing (although I could probably find another way to get them).
  • I would call them and ask- at our old house we had issues with freezing and dialed in customer service and they had an automated 'reset' process we went through that seemed to help.

It also couldn't hurt to trade up the box.

For what it's worth, we ditched cable completely at our new house and with the digital TV and an antenna we get as good if not slightly better picture than we did with cable. Of course the downside is we don't get as many channels (and I do miss HGTV !) but get all of the network stations, and instead of DVR we do the on-demand for shows we like through Netflix/Hulu for $8/month and we have not missed cable.
