I think I remember my mom telling me the legend behind this guy, too. This is definitely a different take on the holidays.

When my mom would tell us about Sinter Klass, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas the part about Zwarte Piet (Black Peter) would be included. He is somewhat like this Krampus character.
