Same answer to both questions: Partial-DITY
We let the government hire someone to take care of the big stuff and we take what things we are able to and care about most in our cars.
Ditto this. It's the best of both worlds, IME.

We did a partial DITY. Movers came and packed our stuff up and drove it across country and I packed our car full as I could and drove that.
I guess it all depends on where you are moving and how much crap you have. I liked doing a partial DITY because we are going to make some money off of it but I didn't have to worry about the stress of packing.
We don't plan on ever doing a DITY move. After just packing and moving the stuff from my place to H's originally, it was enough for us to realize how worth it it is to use the movers.
DITY moves also used to be really popular because you could make a lot of money off of them. Now they are getting more strict about them and people aren't making as much money, so they are even less appealing.
Yep KC, that is what I love about USAA renters insurance, although we own our house now, so it just transferred to regular property coverage. It's still pretty amazing though.
However, I HATE moving. I hate every single aspect of it, and if the Military offers to have our stuff shipped, I will gladly allow them to take it. I have pictures of every big ticket item we have in it's working condition and a huge spreadsheet of our things room by room. It makes damage control so much easier when we get our stuff back.
We have PCS'd 4 times, and always had movers. The first time was overseas, but the last three times were stateside and for us, it was just easier. I would definitely consider a DITY move next time if we are stay CONUS, though.
We also have USAA Renters and love it. It's so cheap. We also got an accidental coverage add-on for $5 more which covers any accidents that happen to our electronics. (Think Wii remote to the TV or coffee on the laptop etc).
Our renter's insurance is the same as KC's. There was never a lapse in coverage.
We did a full DITY & made a decent chunk of change but that was 3 years ago.
