F/U: TMO Didn't Show Up...

I posted on Friday about my fears that TMO would never show up, and I was right....  They didn't.  I talked with DH on skype and he forwarded me all of the confirmation emails stating that the dates were good and that a representative of the moving company would be contacting me.  Well, since that didn't happen, what is the next step that I need to take?

DH is going to talk to the TMO office at his base, but it'll have to happen on Monday.

As it turns out, one of his friends who PSC'd from his base to the East Coast in November had the same thing happen with his wife (who also lives in my state).  He had to personally call the moving company and use some choice words to get them to pick up their belongings.

Now I'm even more paranoid/worried/annoyed/irritated/irate.

Thoughts?  Suggestions at what my next step will be?  Thanks for the input :)

Re: F/U: TMO Didn't Show Up...

  • I would call the TMO office. If you have to leave before the movers can get there you can always have someone else sign off on your move.  I left to join DH at our duty station a week before the movers could come.  I had my MIL at our house the day the movers came and there was no issues.

I would double check that with the movers first though, since some moving  companies won't pack and/or move without someone there who has a specific POA for the HHG move.  I know for our upcoming move our general POA wouldn't even work, they require the specific HHG one, and it has to be in the name of whoever will be there.

Do you have any contact information from the moving company?

  • Just have your H call TMO Monday. When I was at my first base they packed up my HHG from my parents house and there was no problem at all and no POA was needed.

This was never an issue for us.  We were at or first duty station a month before the movers could get to our stuff and my FIL had to oversee everything and they never questioned anything.

Either it's dependent on the way the move is set up, or they are doing it this way because of our command's situation. When the Navy used Smartmove to set up the move it wasn't a big deal. Now they've switched to move.mil and if the sailor isn't going to be there you have to upload the specific HHG POA before they will even set up your move.

  • DH contacted TMO today - turns out whoever helped him back in October didn't fill out the request properly and it sat in limbo the entire time.  Awesome.

The next date they can come is this thursday, the 15th.  Oh well.  We won't get our stuff until the 27th, so that is a bummer since all of our xmas presents will be packed away and we'll have to stay in lodging.  On the bright side, I'll finally be spending Christmas with DH and LO, so it's not all bad.

I have an *important* errand to run on the 15th, so DH is going to add my mom to the approved list of people who can oversee our belongings so when the movers come it shouldn't be an issue (hopefully).
