Christmas gift query

So we are going to ILs for Christmas.  I am not taking all the gifts with us, naturally -- shipping would break us!  They will have the gifts from all the ILs and part of their Santa stuff there.  The gifts from us, my parents and brother (probably sister at some point), will stay here.  We leave on the 22nd and I was not planning on them being able to open any gifts beyond one book I have for them and their ornaments.  The rest I figured they could open when we got home as that would save on the desire to bring the new toys with them.  But I also know when we call for Christmas, they might want to hear the kids' reaction to gifts.

WWYD?   I'm thinking I might just forewarn my parents and siblings that the kids won't be opening presents until we return from DH's parents' house.

Re: Christmas gift query

  • This is what we did last year and it worked out well (as good as traveling with kids can be at Christmas with all the stuff). We took what we could and Santa stuff with us, and then opened the rest when we got home.

  • I would do what you are planning and call your family beforehand to let them know the plan.
