Adhesive Stencils for Etching

Help! I am looking for stencils that adhere to glass for etching.

I bought some Martha Stewart stencils today Michaels but they were not self adhering so my etching came out like a big blog because the cream went into the creases.

Any recommendations for self adhesive stencils and where to get them?

I was doing a nautical theme with the stuff if that makes a difference.

Re: Adhesive Stencils for Etching

  • Do you have an exacto knife and masking tape?

It's a little time consuming, but you get exactly what you want with your etching projects.  I used the stencil to draw the design in sharpie on blue painter's tape and cut it out with an exacto knife.

  • As PP mentioned, painters tape works great.  Or I've seen  "adhesive stencil paper" at Michaels (I believe it was Martha Stewarts brand and around $9.99).

  • I have vinyl at the house that I used with my cricut... I tried to cut the stencil out with a knife I had at the house but it wasn't sharp enough... Maybe I will look for an exacto knife and see if that works before buying new stencils bc these ones were super cute!

  • Can't you just make the stencil with your cricut?

Yes, using vinyl.  I've done it and it works very well.

  • There's a Martha Stewart stencil spray adhesive that should be in the same area you got the stencils. Hope you find something that works!

I could use the Cricut if I had the right cart for the project but unfortunately I do not have a cart that is nautical themed or anything related to that topic.

Oh man - that's a pain!  I am sorry :(  I used clear contact paper to make stencils but I do not have a cartridge based machine.  I think Reine's suggestion should work well for you with the masking tape...I've seen tutorials doing it this way.  Good luck!
