Christmas Dinner Menu

I am having Christmas dinner for my family and I need some ideas.  We usually have  a mix of Easter and Thanksgiving food and this year I wanted to change up the menu.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  My family is not big on sea food other than that they are open.  Thanks Manya

Re: Christmas Dinner Menu

  • What about prime rib, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole? As for Easter foods, our family is Eastern European so it is normally sausage and perogi.

  • My grandma always makes a crock pot of chicken and noodles for all holidays - it started because I'm not a huge turkey lover, and she wanted to make sure I ate something as a kid. Ham, corn, green bean casserole, assorted pies, brownies, baked beans, and this Thanksgiving there was apparently also roast beef. We went to my inlaw's for turkey day this year, so we missed out on that.
  • We're doing rack of lamb, mashed potatoes, and roasted broccoli

  • Maybe a choice of meat such as ham (can be both Easter & Christmas related) and then a pasta choice like lasagna? You can never go wrong with pasta!  And then do sides of veggies, rolls, a potato, rice or other starch.
  • I do not like to repeat the Thanksgiving meal within a month so I totally understand that.  Some ideas my moms H has done - cornish hens, filet steaks, prime rib and beef tenderloin roast.  All have been good. Some side ideas are homemade mac-n-cheese w/peppers, risotto, cheesy potato casserole, balsamic glazed veggies.

H's family always does strictly Italian and that's good too.  Always some sort of pasta in marinara, meatballs, Italian Sausage, french bread and green salad.  Then there is usually a lasagna or stuffed shell type dish.

  • Thanks for all of the suggestions! I think I'm going to do a beef tenderloin and a roast chicken and some sides.  I'm also going to do lasagna too!  When I mentioned that to my sister she got excited.
  • We do our dinner much earlier in the day, it is usually between noon and 1, as my sons go with bio-dad at 3:00 pm on Christmas day.  We always cook a ham, and roasted potatoes and then we do some lunch items and some breakfast items.  That way, people can have a late brunch or a dinner type meal.  On the breakfast side of things we have a couple of egg-bake kind of things, a french toast bake, nisu (Finnish kind of bread) and fruit.  For the dinner side of things we do lasagna, cheesy potatoes, and a vegetable dish of some sort.  Toss in the ham and spuds and it works either way.
  • my Mother hosts Day with all the normal holiday food, Ham, potatoes etc.

So when I do Christmas Eve I do Lasagna, Fettucini Alfredo, ceasar and spinach salad and cheesy garlic bread. It is easy. All the food can be made ahead of time and it is something hearty and fun.
