What's your Christmas menu?

For some stupid reason I invited my ILs for Christmas day.  I know they won't eat my traditional meal so I need some inspiration.  sFIL can't eat beef.  MIL won't eat seafood.  Guess I'm making ham, chicken, or turkey huh?  My parents will also be here but they eat everything.

I will buy them a pack of the Diet Snapple they can't live without and slap a bow on it.

Re: What's your Christmas menu?

  • My moms husband has done cornish hens for xmas a few times and they are  SOOOO good, and I'm a super picky eater.

If you dont think they would eat those though, I would do a small beef roast since you/your family like that and then either a ham or chicken for them.  I personally hate turkey for xmas since it was just served for Thanksgiving.

  • I should have mentioned my normal menu is cornish hens stuffed with coconut wild rice, sugar snap peas, crescent rolls, and squash bisque.  I really don't want to make two mains.  Pork is also out.

The only thing I know I'm making is bacon wrapped green beans and the squash bisque.

  • I'm used to Thanksgiving part II - turkey and ham with all the side dishes and desserts.  Can't tell what I'd make since it's not my holiday (I shall spare you the argument I have every year with DH).
  • Hi!  I'm in "Guest Mode" this year and happy about it.  My SIL usually makes Lasagna.  I have a great recipe if you like that can be made ahead and frozen.

    Good Luck!

  • What about some kind of stuffed chicken breast? There used to be a restaurant here that had one I loved. It was stuffed with feta, spinach, black olives, and artichoke hearts, then rolled in breadcrumbs and baked. They topped it with a lemony sauce. Or you could do chicken cordon bleu.
  • I sort of thought of stuffed chicken breast, but they don't like feta cheese or spinach or artichokes (well sFIL has never had them, MIL only had them on accident when she was here).  Maybe I should just get a spiral ham and call it a day.  These people are so darn picky.

I thought you said pork was out...you've mentioned ham and bacon?

Ask your DH what he typically had growing up and try to build a menu around that

Pretty sure she was trying to head off my default rec of pork tenderloin, not pork in general ;)

And yes, just get a ham.

  • Tarheel's is right.  I meant pork tenderloin or pork chops.

They had ham and whatever MIL could buy in a box or "cook" in a microwave.
