Buying gifts for a baby due AFTER Christmas?
My SIL is due January 30th. I didn't even consider buying the baby Christmas gifts, b/c ummm yeah she won't be "there" to open them. I was planning on buying a few things and giving to her and SIL when she comes home from the hospital. I was talking to MIL last night and she started listing all this stuff she bought the "baby" for Christmas and how she even made her stocking. This just seems silly to me. I mean, maybe if SIL was due within a few days of Christmas and it was possible that she could deliver before Christmas I'd feel differently. WWYD??

Your MIL sounds excited, I think that's sweet. And babies do come early (I had a late Jan due date but my DD was born before Christmas).
Don't feel obligated to buy anything though.

Does your SIL know what she's having - boy or girl? Or, is it a surprise? My Cousin just had her 1st [surprise] baby girl and I held off on buying any Christmas stuff because she received very gender-neutral items at her shower & I wanted to give her specifically girly or boy stuff.
I'd hold off until after the baby arrives - I see nothing wrong with that. Your MIL just sounds excited & that's typical to buy ahead of time. I know that my Aunt bought things for my Cousin's daughter the minute she found out she was pregnant, ha! She would get little things here & there and put them aside.
You don't need to get the baby anything. I received a mom-to-be ornament for Christmas when I was pregnant with DD. I thought that was really cute.
Sure your MIL sounds over-the-top, but I'm sure she's just excited.
