Re: Xmas shopping poll (non-clicky)
How much shopping do you have left to do?
I mentioned below that I'm about 90% done--woohoo! I might want to get another small thing for both my mom and dad, plus I still need to get stocking stuffers but other than that I think we're good. Definitely not empty-handed for anyone on my list right now, which feels great.
Who's the hardest person to shop for on your list?
I think it varies by year. Some years it's obvious what people want, and others it's a real struggle coming up with a good idea as I really want to give something the recipient will be excited about. Generally I think my dad is toughest because he's a pretty simple guy and rarely tells us if he wants anything.
Who's the easiest?
Probably my youngest sister and she almost always comes out and tells us what she wants.
What gift are you most excited about giving?
I think I'm most excited about those Lands' End monogrammed tote bags I got everyone as part of their gifts. I hope they all like them!
What's the best deal you've gotten?
Again, the tote bags (I promise I'll stop talking about these!).
Have you done more shopping online or in stores?
This is the first year where I've really done the vast majority of my shopping online. I signed up for the Amazon Prime trial and am loving it, though I won't be paying the $79/year once the trial period is up. I think this was the perfect time to sign up for the trial though
How much shopping do you have left to do?
I need to get one more thing for my brother, something for my grandfather, and then a few stocking stuffers. Oh, and we have to head to western MA early on Christmas eve to get my brother and his fiancee their gift. (It's a gift card to the beer/wine/gourmet shop they like.)
Who's the hardest person to shop for on your list?
My grandfather. He's 90, and he doesn't need anything. We almost always end up giving him a gift card, but my brother is convinced that he doesn't quite get that even if he doesn't spend all the money on it the first time, he can spend it the next.
Who's the easiest?
My mom. She pretty much tells me what she wants, and I can always get her a scarf or piece of jewelry to fill in the rest. She likes anything sparkly.
What gift are you most excited about giving?
I bought my husband a stuffed Lil Sebastian (from Parks & Rec). He's going to crack up.
What's the best deal you've gotten?
The new Batman game for my brother - it's normally $60, but Best Buy had it half price on Thanksgiving.
Have you done more shopping online or in stores?
Online. I cannot deal with the mall. If I couldn't find what I wanted either online or right by work, then the person is getting a gift card, heh.
How much shopping do you have left to do? None!
Who's the hardest person to shop for on your list? My mom. DH comes in at a close second.
Who's the easiest? My sister (and DS, lol)
What gift are you most excited about giving? I'm excited about the quilt we had made for the nanny! I'm also excited about my SIL's gift- I painted a portrait of her dog for her.
What's the best deal you've gotten? A little Nikon camera that was about $140 on sale for $99.
Have you done more shopping online or in stores? online. How much shopping do you have left to do?
All of it. Woops.
Who's the hardest person to shop for on your list?
IL's. Not MIL and FIL, but SIL & BILs.
Who's the easiest?
My older sister. I just buy the most random thing I can find and she loves it.
What gift are you most excited about giving?
I don't know, on account of not yet having any gifts to give haha
What's the best deal you've gotten?
N/A
Have you done more shopping online or in stores?
I plan on doing everything online. Amazon mostly. We are Prime. It's totally worth $80/year IMO.
How much shopping do you have left to do? Most; MIL & SIL are done. Grandmother's half done. Still have DH and my parents.
Who's the hardest person to shop for on your list? All? I don't like asking what people want, so I bring it on myself.
Who's the easiest? The person who says, I want this or how about this, without me asking. haha
What gift are you most excited about giving? Still haven't given up hope about getting Bruins tickets for me parents.
What's the best deal you've gotten? Almost 1/2 off GPS for MIL on Black Friday.
Have you done more shopping online or in stores? Stores, so far.
How much shopping do you have left to do? Not much! I need to finish a gift for one of my sisters, but will probably just do a gift card unless I find something better in the next two weeks. Same for my uncle. We are making my dad's gift, so I don't have anything left to buy for him but plenty of work to do. Also I need to pick something up for our family Yankee Swap. Otherwise, just my in-laws are left, who in theory my H is responsible for but I am trying to pick stuff out since he tends to shop last minute and stress over it.
Who's the hardest person to shop for on your list? Surprisingly, my sister. She doesn't give a lot of ideas and I'm never sure what to get.
Who's the easiest? My mom. She loves anything pretty. If I have no ideas at Christmas I can always get her a nice ornament and she will love it.
What gift are you most excited about giving? I'm actually super excited about almost all of my gifts. I was so excited about one for H that I gave it to him as soon as it arrived, haha. It was a new pair of shoes just like these old ones he has that are falling apart. He keeps looking for them in stores but I found them online. I was so proud.
What's the best deal you've gotten? I got a book for my dad for like $2 on Amazon. I also got a Coach wristlet from the outlet Cyber Monday online sale for about $25, shipped.
Have you done more shopping online or in stores? Almost everything online. I had a new package on my doorstep every day last week
The only things I bought in a regular store were two frames for prints that I had ordered online. I don't like ordering frames online because you never know what the quality will be like.
I need to buy a couple more books for my dad
My dad is the hardest person ever to shop for
My mom is the easiest. You could send her a card with a heartfelt note and she'd be thrilled
I'm most excited about a Secret Santa gift that should arrive today
The best deal I got was actually for DD's birthday in March. Play kitchen originally $120 I got for $55.
I've done a mix of online and in-store shopping. I got a lot of gifts this summer that I stashed away.
Our little Irish rose came to us on March 5, 2010
Don't drink the water.

Wow, 5KC, that's a lot of effort! They won't just mail you a gift card?
Punky, please PIP the quilt if you can; I'd love to see it.
LadyE, you crack me up!
bostonbaker, what are you making for your dad? If you mentioned it before, sorry I forgot.
How much shopping do you have left to do?
I still have lots more shopping to do, but I've finally decided what I'm going to get for everyone!
Who's the hardest person to shop for on your list? My brother or father
Who's the easiest? My mom or FSIL
What gift are you most excited about giving? Most everything that I'm giving to SO, as it is our first Christmas together.
What's the best deal you've gotten? Hoping to find a good deal on a Le Creuset cast iron skillet for SO but no luck yet.
Have you done more shopping online or in stores? Online!
In my opinion, that's the hardest part. Once I have things picked out I research for the best price then buy it when I find a good deal or realize that I'm not going to find a deal. It's like a fun challenge for me.
Figuring out what to get is definitely the hardest part. Spending money is all too easy, haha!
DimondVT, are you new to the board? I can't trust my memory so if you've intro'ed yourself before, my apologies and welcome!
PIP the cribbage board when you're done, baker!
Well, we're going out there on Christmas eve anyway, since that's where my family is. And the store would probably mail it, but this way, we can get a little something for ourselves, too.
(And by early I mean "leaving an hour or so earlier than we normally would have," because it's two towns over from them. So not nearly as dramatic as it initially sounded, heh.)
Oh, got it, that makes much more sense!
How much shopping do you have left to do? I have to still get FIL's gift, my sister's, and a gift for the giving tree at work. I know what I am getting everyone though, just need to get. Does that count as done?
Who's the hardest person to shop for on your list? FIL, hands down. He is super low maintance, so he never wants anything. Thankfully, DH and he are best friends, so MH always gives me ideas
Who's the easiest? MIL. She is a very open person and says her mind, so she gives you ideas all year long. Plus, she loves everything and has a ton of hobbies. My mom is pretty easy too, she just has very expensive taste, which makes buying for her tough.
What gift are you most excited about giving? We got MIL a Le Creuset dutch oven which she has wanted forever, so I am excited for that. I am also excited to give DH a gift that he described that he wanted, but didn't think exsist, some weird padfolio thing for work. I found what he described online.
What's the best deal you've gotten? I got DH a Columbia interchange winter coat for $70.00, which was MSRPed at $260.00. Also got SIL a great new arrival Gap sweater for a steal at 50% off. And the Le Creuset was a great deal at the outlets. I was a pretty thifty shopper this year.
Have you done more shopping online or in stores? It is pretty much 50/50, maybe a little more in store
Thanks! I love shopping for other people. Hell, I just love shopping.
How much shopping do you have left to do? 12 gifts left (five are edible and won't be purchased until the week of Christmas)
Who's the hardest person to shop for on your list? (Mom)
Who's the easiest? (nieces...they will give me a list)
What gift are you most excited about giving? (I got Dad a new toy)
What's the best deal you've gotten? I purchased five presents for $10 out of pocket. I used a gift card from last Christmas (to a store I don't shop at) and a coupon.
Have you done more shopping online or in stores? This year, I have totally shopped on line.
