AD navy ladies?

HI ladies,

I am coming over from the bump because some ladies suggested you all may able to help me. I was wondering if there were any AD navy ladies on here and if they had any experience with infertility and multiple miscarriages and their experience with seeing an RE or having fertility treatment. I have gone through it all as a dependent but wanted to know how it is for AD. I heard that you are not allowed to go off base but that might just be hear-say. I wanted to hear an experience directly from someone who has gone through it. I will be in the Norfolk area if that makes a difference

Re: AD navy ladies?

  • I'm AD AF and conceived my babies via IVF at the Navy hospital in San Diego.  I had to get a referral from my PCM (I was stationed in CA at the time), and Tricare reimbursed me for the travel and lodging.  Tricare did cover my diagnostic testing (a SHG, HSG, CD3 labs).  The waiting list was over a year, so if you're in a hurry, you're better off paying out of pocket to go through a civilian RE.

The biggest issues I encountered were that we can't take PTDY/PTAD for it because it's considered an elective medical procedure, and because it's an elective medical procedure, I had to get letters signed by my command acknowledging what I was doing.  I was attempting to make a baby, but being treated like I was trying to get a boob job.

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.  Good luck.

    Twin boys due 7/25/12
