Get Real 2012

I know a few of you have expressed interest in transitioning to a whole/organic foods diet and wanted to share this info. One of my close friends is the whole foods contributer for the once a month mom blog (it's a blog dedicated to bulk freezer cooking) and she is doing a series to help those who are interested transition. In addition to this link, if you haven't already checked out the blog and are interested in freezer cooking you should! It's awesome! My friend's name is Kelly.

Re: Get Real 2012

  • I am at a really weird point in my transition.   I feel like I just can't find the right balance.  I want to live an organic, low-meat consumption, healthy lifestyle, and we're working towards that but it's not cheap or easy.   We went from "typical" American eating to vegetarianism in 2011, and that wasn't working for our family either... so now I'm looking to strike the perfect balance.  Thank you for sharing the link, I hope to get into a good groove in 2012!

  • Ugh! We are in such a food rut these past few weeks --- I have like ZERO energy. This might be the motivation I need.

  • I've had lots of slumps myself, and I have to remind myself not to beat myself up over the occasional McD's run or frozen pizza. I think anything in moderation is fine. I've recently started ordering a lot of my pantry staples from Azure Standard. They have better prices than I've found anywhere else and most, if not everything, is organic and unprocessed. I've also joined a milk CSA and my organic milk is only $5/gallon. I buy my meat from local farmers and that keeps the costs down. Also, we recently got a Trader Joe's here and their prices on organic produce are amazing. Just some ideas. I've found that you can take almost any recipe and adapt it for a more whole foods diet by just subbing things in or leaving things out. But yes, I'm excited for this series just as a refresher and looking for some tips that I might not already have thought of.
