QOTD - Tuesday

Thanks for WNW for remembering yesterday!

What is the favorite place you've worked in the DC Metro area NOT taking into consideration your commute? Just consider location, food options, atmosphere, view, etc.

Re: QOTD - Tuesday

  • I've only worked in one place here in DC which is my current job. I guess by default it has to be my favorite :)
  • I worked near the Georgetown Waterfront in my last private sector job.

It was a pretty neat location. Baked and Wired was super close, Bangkok Joe's was across the street, we went to Sequoia for happy hours during the summer, sitting outside on the large patio.

The walk from the Metro sucked and my only regret was I was kind of broke back then so I didn't have that much money to take advantage of the cool things in Georgetown.

  • I think it's a tie between two of my job locations (neither is my current one).

    1. Downtown DC - it was great to have so many lunch options and be able to meet DH for lunch occasionally.

    2. Rockville Pike area - Still decent lunch options, although you had to drive to most of them, and lots of opportunities to run errands at lunch.

  • I used to work full time downtown near Farragut Square (17th and I), and that was a great location. Lots of places to go.

I also spent two years working in Crystal City, which also had lots of great, fast options.

Now, I currently work in Fairfax, which has zero options unless I get in my car. However, this does help my waistline and wallet.

  • I have only worked in PWC, which doesn't have a whole lot to recommend it.  I do like that it's a little less urban and a little more Virginia, but food options are pretty much zero, and it's not close to anything.

This is pretty much the same as me. I used to work at George Washington University and I liked that there were lots of lunch options in the downtown area and I could occasionally meet friends for lunch.

However, my current work location is near Rockville Pike. Even though you pretty much have to drive everywhere, I like being able to knock out some errands on my lunch break (hello Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Buy Buy Baby).

  • I had several jobs downtown around 15th and K.  I loved the location.  Of course, at that time, I lived in DuPont Circle, so I walked to work, stores, happy hour, etc.  Ah, those were the days.

Now I work at Skyline (Bailey's Crossroads) in a campus of 8 buildings.  We have several eatery's to choice from in the campus and can easily walk to Homegoods and TJ Maxx.  But, we have a Target that has a little back entrance we can use to cut through the campus.  But, it is hard to make it out of there with out opening your wallet!

  • I've worked in three locations in/around DC: Tysons, 18th & G, and Foggy Bottom.  While I strongly disliked the job I had while working at 18th & G, it was my favorite location, mainly because of all of the lunch options nearby.  Foggy Bottom has become a close second thanks to the food trucks though.

  • This is only my 2nd job in the area, and I don't like it anymore than the first job - but the location is better (Rockville Pike area).  It's easier to run errands and it's closer to my house.
  • Working on the Mall is pretty sweet (aside from the fact that you have to walk several blocks, horror of horrors, for Starbucks). Being able to catch a new exhibit at lunch is always fun.

In college I worked about three miles from my rental house and that was awesome because I could come home and take a nap during lunch.

  • I've never worked in a great location - I worked at the National Museum of American History, so nothing great really close by, College Park, upper Northwest...

When I was in my early 20s, I worked retail full-time. Working at a mall (Montgomery Mall) was awesome, but I spent all of my money there. I was very well dressed, though, and always got the mall employee discount at the food court.

  • I liked working in Judiciary Square- it had everything you needed close by and it was fun to leave work 2 min before you were due in court.  Made you very efficient.

I like working where I do now because of my walking commute.

  • I worked in Georgetown in the early 1980s when my then-husband/now ex was at training for four months so I had a car, free parking, and lots of time to walk around town (not much money to spend, but back then, it seemed like less of an issue).

I've been at my current job/location since the late 1980s and I love the location (17th and New York, NW) - just inside the city so the traffic's not bad, easy walking to restaurants (although there's nothing exactly on my block...). And I could walk to some of the monuments/memorials on my lunch hour, if I were so inclined.

  • my temp jobs were in good locations (17th & N, 15th & L) because my commutes were a five minute walk and the lunch options were really good.

i like my current job a lot better but i'm in foggy bottom but still a little bit of a hike from good, quick lunch options. though the options are fewer, i still like this job situation better.

  • I miss my old office location, which pretty much evenly split the Farragut West/Foggy Bottom/Dupont area. I could walk to ATL/Hello Cupcake/Dolcezza in Dupont, Gap/Chocolate Moose/Plaza Art in Farragut, and TJ's in Foggy Bottom. It was less about lunch options and more about shopping/chocolate for me. :) Not to mention stopping in Clarendon on the way home if I felt like it.

Of course, hubz and I both worked downtown for several years and only met for lunch once (getting to/from each other took almost the entire lunch hour = FAIL) and dinner maybe three times. Whoops.

  • My favorite location is from my living room, on telework mornings.  :)

My location is pretty good right now, but I wish I were closer to a department store/s - like, metro center would be great, because I would still have CVS, Sbucks, etc. - but, I'd also have Macy's.  Pentagon City would be pretty sweet, too (if I lived in VA).

  • My first job out of college was at 15th and K, which I liked a lot. There were pretty good food options, and it was obviously convenient to metro.

I worked in Rockville at one point, which I really liked because I was only a block from my dad (though we still had to drive). We went out to lunch once a week, which was awesome. As far as food options, though, there wasn't much.

  • I've only had 2 jobs here: one downtown DC & one in FFX.

I vastly preferred being in downtown DC to take walks on my lunch break and being near Teaism was a once-a-month or so treat I indulged in. It also made going to HH easier & more fun (more options).  However, the FFX location was handy during wedding planning b/c I could drive to craft stores & such on my lunch break!

  • I loved working downtown in ealry 20s.  My office was at 14th and K and while going north on 14th street was sometimes scary (oh how times have changed...), it was great to walk elsewhere in the city.

Since then I've worked in Old Town Alexandria, Alexandria and Merrifield. Old Town was equally wonderful to working downtown for walk-ability - but I got to say, now as a working mom, I love being in the suburbs with a car and the ability to run errands at lunch.  That is so much more important to me than any ambiance.  Merrifield is great because it's a quick drive to Tysons, the new town center when it is complete will have a Target and a Harris Teeter and I love roaming the garden center at lunch time.  It's like my personal botanic garden.

  • I've only worked at my current job by Chinatown, but I really like the location. The commute is easy (metro ride only takes about 30 min.), there are stores and museums to kill time in during lunch or if I'm meeting a friend or DH after work, and of course tons of restaurants, though I'm frugal and don't go out to lunch much.

  • I've only worked in NoVa but I enjoyed working in Reston Town Center because of the food, shopping, etc, but I love working in Clarendon now.  Awesome restaurants, happy hour spots, shopping, etc.  :)
